Job summary

Air Products seeks a Project Engineer in Chandler, AZ to lead gas delivery projects from proposal through startup and turnover. You will coordinate across multi‑functional teams, lead safety culture, and mentor the project team while working 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

The role requires a mechanical or chemical engineering degree, knowledge of drafting/CAD, and strong communication. Travel and on-site support are expected during key phases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of NFPA and CGA codes preferred.
  • PMP Certification by PMI is a plus.
  • Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

  • Craft detailed equipment layouts and process flow schematics.
  • Coordinate with contractors for permitting, fabrication, installation, and testing.

We are seeking a Project Engineer within our West Customer Engineering team located in Chandler, AZ. This position requires 10-15% domestic travel. The role also requires onsite support during key project execution phases. The Project Engineer will own the development and execution of gas delivery system projects, coordinating all phases from initial proposal development through startup, commissioning, and final turnover. This role collaborates closely with multi-functional teams across the North America Customer Engineering organization, including Asset, Product, Work Process, and Equipment Support, as well as key partners within the West Business Organization such as Logistics, Sales, and Marketing. The Project Engineer will provide leadership in Air Products’ Basic Safety Program, ensuring a strong safety culture and driving the project team to achieve company safety objectives throughout all stages of project execution. Responsibilities include developing technical proposals and providing maintenance support to the Commercial Liquid Bulk Sales team based on customer requirements, crafting detailed equipment layouts and process flow schematics, and coordinating with external contractors for permitting, construction, manifold fabrication, piping installation, and system analytical certifications. The successful candidate will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives passionate about improving operational efficiency and customer happiness. Working alongside the Engineering Manager and experienced regional Customer Engineering team members, this individual will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth while contributing to the successful delivery of critical customer projects.

Skills and Abilities
  • Keen focus on providing leadership in Air Products’ Basic Safety program and driving the entire project team to achieve company safety targets for all phases of project execution.
  • Basic understanding of drafting or CAD for crafting layout and system flow schematics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, financial data analysis, technical capability to understand process and customer technology.
  • Phenomenal problem‑solving abilities, results‑oriented, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well within a multi-disciplinary develop team
Minimum Hiring Requirements
  • Knowledge of NFPA and CGA codes is preferred.
  • Bachelors Engineering degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • PMP Certification by Project Management Institute (PMI) is a plus
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit).
Work Hours and Benefits

Work hours M-F during normal business hours. Flexible start and end Working hours within the local hours of 7am to 7pm. Work from office 3 days a week and 2 days from home when not out at jobsites or traveling outside of area. #LI-LA1
