Job Description
Hoffman Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to provide essential technical and administrative support throughout the lifecycle of a hyper‑scale data center construction project. The role requires coordination among project team members, design professionals, subcontractors, and client stakeholders while ensuring safety, quality, and constructability standards are upheld.
Location
The position will be fully at the project site near Boise, Idaho.
Salary Range
$78,000–$135,000 + incentives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead or support meetings with area managers, design team members, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Act as interface between area managers and subcontractors to resolve field coordination items.
- Review and interpret design drawings, construction documents, and technical manuals and quantify materials required for construction.
- Coordinate civil, architectural, and structural (CSA) systems within overall project scope.
- Assist with organizing and facilitating client personnel training on operations and maintenance of CSA elements and systems.
- Review and process shop drawings, product data, and technical submittal information; cross‑coordinate between submittals for compatibility and constructability.
- Generate, receive, and distribute Requests for Information (RFI).
- Receive and distribute change documents, bulletins, and field directives issued by team members.
- Support BIM coordination and participate in clash detection and resolution.
- Participate in QA/QC activities, including pre‑functional testing and systems start‑up.
- Assist in commissioning and turnover of systems.
- Serve as technical advisor at the on‑site field construction office.
- Provide technical support in the field, including layout, verification, and sequencing of installations.
- Attend and contribute to pre‑installation meetings; assist in documenting as‑built conditions.
- Collaborate with MEP engineers to integrate architectural, structural, and MEP systems.
Qualifications
We are looking for a flexible, detail‑oriented team player who can manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Minimum 3 years Project Engineering experience in commercial building construction; hyperscale or mission‑critical data center project experience highly preferred.
- Deep understanding of construction methods, trade sequencing, and commissioning workflows.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor of Science in civil, mechanical, electrical, structural engineering, construction management, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent work experience.
Position Related Skills
- Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams); strong understanding of working within a computer network.
- Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E‑Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6.
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks.
- Training in design and construction document reading, specifications, survey theory, and techniques.
- Experience organizing technical data accurately; familiar with CSI MasterFormat.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field practices.
- Capable of organizing and analyzing technical data effectively.
- Excellent time‑management, multitasking, prioritization; work well under interruptions.
- Excellent written and oral communication; strong interpersonal relations.
- Professional demeanor in diverse field environments.
- Team player able to collaborate across departments and leadership levels.
- Flexible work schedule to accommodate construction schedules and sequences.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Workday includes standing, walking, and sitting; work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and inspect confined or underground spaces.
- Operate computer and office machinery; use hands and feet to manipulate, position materials.
- Close visual acuity required; able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
- Hearing capable in proximity to loud equipment; may require hearing protection.
- Speech: ability to communicate in English (laws, regulations, procedures).
- Lift or manipulate 50 pounds up to 3 feet; carry/push 50–100 feet.
- Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
- Access to all construction site areas required.
- Use independent judgment, organization, critical thinking.
