Job description

Position Overview

The Project Engineer in the Fastener Division is a key role in supporting the operational and growth objectives of the company. This individual will complete all manufacturing engineering duties as part of a core team responsible for deploying strategic new products and cost improvements. General job duties, though not comprehensive, can be expected to include creating internal product drawings and models, creating engineering methods and requirements, working with tooling engineering and operations to debug and maximize machine efficiency, and analyzing manufacturing data for continuous improvement projects. This position requires an eye for detail, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials used in the fastener market, a hands‑on bias, and thorough analytical methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • New Product Development:
    • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals for product and process requirements.
    • Translate requirements into internal drawings and robust processing methods documented in an engineering master.
    • Assess material, labor, and equipment to optimize costing while meeting product requirements.
    • Collaborate with operators, tooling engineering, and operations management to drive consistency in process performance and utilization.
    • Support discussions with outside vendors providing services for the new product.
    • Where new equipment is required, define machine requirements specifications and work with sourcing to develop and deploy equipment.
    • Develop, with quality, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Conduct value stream mapping, cycle time evaluation, process flow mapping, and other LEAN methods to identify areas where costs can be improved.
    • Analyze production data to find areas for improvement and develop CI strategy.
    • Scope new equipment that can improve operational performance through either cost or lead time reduction.
    • Perform Gemba walks with management to get direct feedback from the floor on areas for improvement.
    • Develop standard operating procedures to document and implement improvements.
    • Where new equipment is required, define machine requirements specifications and work with sourcing to develop and deploy equipment.
Competencies
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • High proficiency in utilizing software including ERPs, estimating software, Excel and Microsoft products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Highly collaborative.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self‑motivation with the ability to evaluate priorities and aggressively pursue high‑value activities with minimal guidance.
