Job summary

New York City Economic Development Corporation is seeking a Project Director to lead design and construction for the NYC Groceries initiative and related projects. You will work with AMDC leadership, NYC Groceries leadership, and external partners to ensure delivery aligns with goals, budgets, and schedules.

The role requires 4+ years in architecture/engineering/construction management and strong communication and budgeting skills; NYC residency within 180 days is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or related field.
• 4+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, urban planning, construction management, or related fields.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
• Analytical thinker able to anticipate and troubleshoot challenges and develop solutions.
• Experience with NYC project delivery and grocery store design/construction preferred.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communicator.
• Knowledge of budgeting and cost analysis for design and construction projects.
• Experience with construction management software and scheduling software preferred.
• Actively pursuing professional registration (PE, RA, AICP, PMP, etc.) preferred.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
• NYC residency required within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manage capital plans and project budgets across the portfolio.
• Oversee development phases including procurement, assessments, budgeting, and regulatory approvals.
• Maintain scope, cost, and schedule controls with thorough documentation.
• Manage quality, timelines, budgets, and deliverables to NYCEDC standards.
• Identify and mitigate project risks using proactive management.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to align with policies and operations.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and government agencies.
• Communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
