Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Denver, CO seeks a Project Director to provide strategic oversight and delivery of a portfolio of transportation projects. You will govern resources, manage risks, and engage stakeholders while guiding cross-functional teams toward high-impact outcomes.

The role requires twelve years of experience, 6–8 years in PM, and PMP certification (or commitment to obtain within one year). This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of professional experience, 6–8 years in PM.
  • PMP certification required or to be obtained within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio leadership: accountable for successful delivery of a portfolio of projects.
  • Project review & coordination with Project Managers for consistency and timely delivery.
  • Client & stakeholder engagement as primary contact for high-level interactions.
  • Technical oversight: guidance on approaches, design standards, and deliverables.
  • Project management support to resolve constraints and priorities.
  • Governance & risk leadership: establish portfolio governance and mitigate risks.
  • Performance monitoring & reporting: track KPIs and support data-driven decisions.
  • Team leadership & development: mentor project managers and leads.
  • Quality assurance and compliance with internal standards.
  • Strategic planning & business development to support growth in transportation consulting services.

Expected compensation range is between $180,000 - $190,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.


Overview

We are seeking a Project Director to join our team in Denver, CO.


The Project Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and successful delivery of a portfolio of projects aligned with organizational goals. This role ensures effective governance, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder engagement across multiple initiatives. The Project Director leads cross-functional teams, drives performance, and fosters continuous improvement to achieve high-impact outcomes within scope, budget, and timeline.


Your role


  • Portfolio Leadership: Is accountable for the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with client goals and firm strategy. Oversees a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with client goals, regulatory standards, and firm-wide strategic priorities.

  • Project Review & Coordination: Conduct regular reviews of project status, risks, and performance with the Project Managers to ensure consistency, quality, and timely delivery across the portfolio

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for high-level client interactions, fostering trust and ensuring stakeholder expectations are met or exceeded. Technical Oversight: Provide guidance on technical approaches, design standards, and technical deliverables to ensure excellence and compliance with regulations.

  • Project Management Support: Support project managers in resolving constraints or competing priorities.

  • Governance and Risk Leadership: Establish portfolio-wide governance structures, lead risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Updated September 2025

  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify and mitigate risks across the portfolio, escalating critical issues and implementing corrective actions in collaboration with project teams and the Project Manager.

  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track key performance indicators, participate in business reviews as needed, and support data-driven decision making for continuous improvement.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor project managers and technical leads, promoting a collaborative culture and professional growth within the practice.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to internal quality standards.

  • Strategic Planning and Business Development: Contribute to strategic planning, proposal development, and client presentations to support growth and innovation in transportation consulting services.


About You


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus.

  • This position requires minimum of twelve (12) years of professional experience; 6-8 years of PM experience, including some experience managing multi-disciplinary projects.

  • PMP certification is required or must be obtained within one year of employment.
