Job summary

BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc. is seeking a Project Development Specialist in the Kansas City area to define and coordinate design-build projects from pre-construction through engineering handoff.

You will prepare detailed project descriptions, coordinate with the production team and customers, and produce accurate drawing sets to support efficient processing. The role focuses on continuous improvement, cost reduction, quality, and safety, while fostering collaboration with internal

Qualifications

  • Associate or 2-year technical degree or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with metal building projects or related construction coordination.
  • Strong communication with contractors, engineers, and architects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate detailed project descriptions for design-build and pre-construction projects.
  • Coordinate pre-construction drawings with production team and customer to ensure accuracy.
  • Develop CAD drawings and provide technical expertise for customers and internal teams.
  • Attend meetings and participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and project coordination.

The Project Development Specialist establishes and clarifies specific projects that are submitted as design build projects and projects received. The Specialist prepares and coordinates detailed descriptions of projects and their requirements to allow accurate and efficient processing by the Engineering team. They also coordinate the planning of a construction project before Engineering phase begins as well as participate in pre-coordination meetings, evaluations, studies, value engineering and analysis, and constructability reviews of best practices. The Project Development Specialist uses engineering systems and drawings to provide project coordination, structural design services, and up-front information for customers. The Specialist focuses on continuous improvement, cost reduction, quality, and safety. They also focus on supporting and engaging in a collaborative work environment with all internal associates and clients.

Key Focus Areas
  • Builds and develops CAD drawings (Permit and Anchor Bolt drawings for pre-construction use by builders, end clients, and internal customers.
  • Coordinates pre-construction drawings with production team and customer to verify pre-construction information accuracy.
  • Ensures customer design service needs are met by meeting drawing and information collaboration deliverables and producing and managing drawing sets
  • Develops and grows software and technical knowledge and skills to keep up with changes in software development
  • Provides technical expertise to customers
  • Attends applicable meetings
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Associate or 2-year technical degree or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Proficient in Algebra and Trigonometry
  • 3 years of experience in the Metal Building field
  • Experience in communicating with contractors, engineers, and architects
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in the Metal Building field
  • General understanding and ability to read architectural drawings and specifications
  • Proficient in CAD and Revit modeling
Skills & Competencies
  • Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Experience with Autodesk Programs preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Flexibility with travel requirements and overtime when required
  • Problem solving
