Job summary

BlueScope is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to ensure engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, and technical information are up to date. You will collaborate with the engineering team to implement design or material changes and develop maintenance SOPs and standards.

This role focuses on safety, reliability improvements, and leading maintenance staff and contractors through shutdown planning and cost-effective repairs.

Responsibilities

• Keeps engineering drawings, maintenance procedures and technical information up to date
• Confers with the engineering department and recommends design or material changes
• Develops and/or updates maintenance SOPs, strategies and standards
• Identifies safety hazards for maintenance and production employees and develops actions
• Identifies and implements process equipment improvements using reliability-based maintenance
• Provides direction to maintenance associates and contract labor
• Coordinates with planners to develop detailed shutdown work plans
• Optimizes spares levels, contracts and stock carrying costs
• Develops and organizes training programs for maintenance staff
• Performs root cause analysis on equipment failures and prevents recurrence
• Promotes rational problem solving and decision making
• Develops capital requests and project management plans
• Implements standardization of HMIs and PLCs with training and specifications
• Establishes repair priorities in liaison with operating departments
• Decides whether to buy new or repair
• Communicates with vendors for timely repairs
• Creates work orders and MSOs as needed
• Determines cost-effective repair methods
• Documents activities in work orders
• Communicates with Engineers about design changes due to repetitive repairs
• Keeps Planners informed on equipment repair status
• Reviews addition of spare and bulk parts
• Leads Maintenance Excellence Projects to improve efficiency
• Researches purchasing department spare part procurement problems
• Reviews PMs for efficiency per RCM methods
• Handles repairable spare storeroom items
• Executes inspection of storeroom fabricated parts
• Assists Engineers with Maintenance and Engineering infrastructure improvements
• Promotes common spare parts
• Assists in other functions as directed

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures engineering drawings, maintenance procedures and technical information are kept up to date.
• Confers with the engineering department and recommends design or material changes
• Develops and/or updates maintenance SOP’s, strategies and standards
• Identifies safety hazards for both maintenance and production employee’s and develops appropriate actions.
• Identify and implement process equipment improvements utilizing reliability-based maintenance philosophy
• Provide direction to maintenance associates and contract labor
• Work with planners/scheduler to develop detailed shutdown work plans
• Optimize spares holding levels, develop efficient supply contracts and minimize stock holding costs
• Develop & organize training programs for maintenance associates that apply to operations, maintenance and safety
• Carries out root cause analysis on equipment failures and takes appropriate measures to prevent failures from reoccurring
• Promotes the use of rational process in problem solving and decision making
• Develops capital requests, cost justifications and project management
• Implement standardization of HMIs and PLCs, to include training, and supporting technical specifications
• Establishing repair priorities through communications with the operating departments, line maintenance associates and planners
• Determining whether to buy new or repair
• Communicating with vendors for the purpose of timely repairs
• Creating Work orders and MSO’s as needed
• Determining most cost-effective repair method
• Documentation of activities and status in the work orders
• Communicating with Engineers where design changes may be required because of repetitive repairs
