Job description

Kindle Energy LLC (“Kindle”) specializes in the management, optimization, and development of power generation in the United States and Canada and is a portfolio company of The Blackstone Group. Blackstone is a leading global alternative asset manager with more than $1 trillion of total assets under management. Currently, Kindle manages 5+ GWs of generation in Ohio, and Indiana, with a 700 MW CCGT project and 164 MW SCGT under construction in Louisiana and Colorado respectively.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced individual for the position of Development Project Engineer – Cogeneration to support new initiatives in the design, construction, and commercialization of cogeneration power assets. The position is approved to work remotely with travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the business development and origination teams related to acquisition of new investment opportunities for Kindle including new construction, expansion, and asset optimization for large scale simple cycle and combined cycle gas-fired turbine projects, with a focus on combined-heat-and-power projects and datacenters.
  • Support Kindle business development on technical aspects of new development projects related to cogeneration and microgrid technologies.
  • Promote safety through proactive involvement in safety training, adherence to safety policies, and inclusion of company safety initiatives in project deliverables.
  • Communicate with project owners to ensure alignment to project goals.
  • Specify and select appropriate equipment and technology to meet the performance, emissions, and financial goals of the project.
  • Work at a very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor.
  • Focus on continuous optimization and improvement of project technical design and cost estimation.
  • Collaborate on cost estimates and budgets for projects, ensuring financial viability and adherence to budgetary constraints and project schedule.
  • Analyze project schedule, progress, and cost reports and provide routine input to the Project Management Team, and when necessary, assist in developing mitigation plans to maintain project goals.
  • Participate in the development of project design and installation specifications as well as commissioning plans.
  • Support project development of electrical interconnects, fuel pipeline interconnects, air/water permitting processes, thermal and water balances, and process controls.
  • Provide construction execution planning, including logistics planning (e.g. transportation, receiving, maintenance, and storage of equipment and materials).

Qualifications:

Bachelors and/or Masters degree in engineering or equivalent field within power generation and/or energy industry experience.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in the energy field, in either executing and managing development, engineering, design, construction, startup & commissioning activities related to combined heat- and-power projects or in leading the operations of multiple cogeneration facilities, with substantive operational and engineering knowledge of combustion technology, boiler and steam turbines.
  • Must have an extreme focus on safety and environment-over-production.
  • High proficiency in effectively leading individuals and teams.
  • Experience in leading technical development and project management during implementation phase.
  • Direct operational experience of cogeneration power preferred.
  • Experience in negotiating large-scale contracts and cogeneration offtake agreements.
  • Must have a high level of self-awareness, motivation, and ability to communicate openly and timely with team members.
  • Proven technical expertise in fossil fuel power generation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
