Job summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina is seeking an Associate Project Designer, Project Designer, or Sr. Project Designer to join our team in the greater Bluffton, SC area.

This full-time role supports Electric Distribution Engineering in DESC's Southern District, with responsibilities including designing, drawing, calculations, load analysis, and project cost estimation. Successful candidates will size equipment, obtain permits, coordinate with stakeholders, and assist operations during construction.

Qualifications

  • 0–2+ years related experience for Associate Project Designer.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity, electric distribution design, electric distribution operation, and use of a personal computer.

Responsibilities

  • Produce technical designs.
  • Prepare detailed drawings and exhibits.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina is looking for an Associate Project Designer, Project Designer, or Sr. Project Designer to join our team in the greater Bluffton, SC area. This is a full‑time position supporting Electric Distribution Engineering in the Southern District of DESC. There is one position available which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

This role is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of electric distribution facilities in Dominion Energy's electric service territories in Beaufort County, Jasper County, Hampton County, Allendale County, and portions of Colleton and Bamberg Counties. Candidates in this role will:

  • Produce technical designs

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
Associate Project Designer:

0 – 2+ years related experience;

Basic knowledge of electricity, electric distribution design, electric distribution operation, and use of a personal computer

Skills and Abilities: problem‑solving, decision‑making, project management, time management, organization, verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, attention to detail, and adaptability.

Physical attributes to perform essential function: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.

Project Designer:

2 – 3+ years related experience;

Successful completion of the Project Designer Development Program or previous external experience demonstrating knowledge of fundamental overhead and commercial design.

Knowledge of distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures.

Skills: verbal, written and interpersonal communication; time management and organization; project management; math and technical aptitude.

Abilities: effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented.

Physical attributes to perform essential function of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.

Demonstrated leadership ability.

Completion of NWLC T&D Modules 1-3 (not required if have an Associates degree)

Sr Project Designer:

5+ years related experience;

Demonstrates leadership skills through training, mentoring and supporting less experienced personnel as well as appropriately interacting with other groups.

Successful completion of the Project Designer Development Program or previous external experience demonstrating knowledge of fundamental overhead and commercial design.

Strong knowledge of distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures and mainframe and personal computer.

Skills: good written, verbal and interpersonal communication; math and technical aptitude. Time management and organization; project management; analytical.

Abilities: adaptable to change, demonstrate initiative, effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented.

Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.

Completion of NWLC T&D Modules 1-3 (not required if have an Associates degree) and Module 4 (required even have an Associates degree)

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associates

Disciplines: Preferred: Business; Engineering; Engineering Technology; Liberal Arts

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Be available to work after house, scheduled overtime, and callout work
