Job summary

Shield Casework, a Kansas City-based manufacturer, is seeking a Project Designer to transform client ideas into buildable solutions. You will balance creativity with technical feasibility, producing design and estimate packages for projects from concept through documentation.

Reporting to the Design/Estimating Manager, you will collaborate with Sales, Estimating, Production, and Engineering to ensure costs, schedules, and quality meet client expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, or a related field is required.
• 0–4+ years of relevant professional experience in design, architecture, manufacturing, fabrication, or related field.
• Working knowledge of SketchUp Pro and Microsoft Excel required; experience with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create design drawings and estimates using SketchUp, Excel, and other software across design phases from concept to construction documentation.
• Translate client goals into feasible, cost-effective design solutions balancing aesthetics, function, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with clients, Sales, Project Management, Estimating, Production, Engineering, and vendors throughout the design process.
• Document design decisions, specifications, and cost details clearly for all stakeholders.
• Develop solutions considering materials, fabrication methods, and manufacturing constraints.
