Position Summary

We are seeking a talented Project Designer with 6+ years of relevant experience in workplace interiors to join a dynamic design team in San Francisco. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented professional who can develop compelling design concepts, contribute throughout all project phases, and collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, vendors, contractors, and internal project teams.

This role requires strong design leadership, technical expertise in Revit, proficiency with Enscape, and a solid understanding of construction documentation, codes, constructability, budgeting, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership

  • Develop, lead, and present design concepts directly to client stakeholder groups.
  • Support programming, visioning, space planning, and design development efforts.
  • Apply critical thinking to anticipate design and project challenges.
  • Incorporate sustainability, wellness, and equity principles into design solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams throughout all phases of design.
  • Collaborate with vendors, furniture dealers, and manufacturers to develop FF&E selections within project budgets and schedules.
  • Stay current with emerging products, design innovations, technologies, and industry trends.

Project Coordination

  • Contribute to projects across all design phases, including workplace interiors and building renovations.
  • Coordinate with designers, consultants, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies and workplans for design deliverables, including renderings, finish plans, elevations, and material selections.
  • Ensure design solutions meet project goals, quality standards, applicable codes, and constructability requirements.
  • Support quality assurance and technical review processes.
  • Assist with document production and team design reviews.

Collaboration & Client Relations

  • Work closely with architects, consultants, general contractors, and project managers to integrate project requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and incorporate feedback into design solutions.
  • Participate in job site meetings and support Construction Administration activities.
  • Review and process RFIs and submittals.
  • Mentor junior design staff and share knowledge with project teams.
  • Collaborate with teams across multiple office locations as needed.

Technical Expertise

  • Utilize Revit to develop models and construction documentation efficiently.
  • Apply strong knowledge of construction methods, detailing, and documentation standards.
  • Perform drawing markups and manage drawing sets accurately.
  • Support or assume responsibilities typically handled by a Job Captain when required.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, and constructible.

Problem Solving

  • Identify and resolve design and technical challenges proactively.
  • Develop creative and practical design solutions while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, project managers, and consultants to meet project budgets and schedules.
  • Develop pricing alternatives and value-engineering options when needed.

Software & Digital Tools

  • Advanced proficiency with Revit.
  • Proficiency with Enscape for 3D visualization and design communication.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to develop schematic design and design development presentations.
  • Familiarity with AI tools used in architectural design and documentation is a plus.

Level I vs. Level II

The distinction between Project Designer Level I and Level II will be based on experience, capabilities, and project size and complexity.

Level II candidates typically have 8+ years of relevant experience and may serve as Design Lead on multiple small- to medium-sized projects, guiding design phases and leading multiple design teams.
