Position Summary

Assist or lead sales team members in the design and specification of assigned design projects for clients. Design services include programming, design concepts, space planning, commercial furniture specifications, site visits, and furniture installation drawings. Works closely with internal sales, project coordinators, project managers, and installation team members to ensure a positive and successful client experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • With minimal direction, assist in or lead the design and specification of assigned projects.
  • Assist or lead sales and design team members in the preparation of client presentations.
  • Lead in ensuring the accuracy of all drawings and specifications before presenting to the selling team member or client – operate with little to no specification errors.
  • Display in-depth knowledge in design trends and appropriate product application.
  • Display in-depth knowledge of Teknion research and lead in consultative selling efforts.
  • Prepare and present design contracts, assist Associate & Design I team members with contracts.
  • Serve as mentor and coach to other design team members.
  • Serve as a resource to other design team members and account manager designers for final specification checks.
  • Display high level rendering and presentation capability.
  • Serve as a champion of a design team metric, responsible for efforts that create a streamlined approach.
  • Programming: attend client planning meetings; present plans and information to clients for review and approval; conduct programming by interviewing clients/end users and produce reports; review site; conduct field measurements and plan-to-site adherence checks; verify existing inventory/product if necessary; produce as‑built drawings/specifications.
  • Design Development: develop and present block/space plans; select, develop and present color/finish boards; provide design budgets for projects; maintain daily timesheets; manage actual time against budgets; develop product specifications; verify specifications against plans; produce order‑ready specifications utilizing technology; verify accuracy; manage changes and revisions; maintain detailed project documentation including records of key decisions and notes from client/internal meetings.
  • Final Design: create finished working drawings for specification and installation; validate plans against construction, electrical and A&D drawing set; conduct field review during/after installation with Project Managers and/or installation crew; manage adherence to project schedule and budgets; communicate regularly on assignment status to all parties involved; ensure complete and accurate plans/specifications are order ready; may be required to conduct organizational interfaces with client, A&D firms, contractors, project managers, sales, sales administration, internal operations personnel, and installation crews.

Requirements
  • Education & Experience – Bachelor’s degree in Interior, Industrial or Architectural Design and 4+ years’ experience in furniture/office/space planning or equivalent; dealership experience preferred; knowledge of building codes for furniture design required.
  • Computer Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and CET Designer; preferred experience with 20/20 technologies, Bluebeam, and Configura.
  • Other Skills – Solid interpersonal skills; excellent communication; strong problem solving; strong attention to detail; highly organized; works well under pressure; strong multi‑tasking and prioritizing.
  • Physical Demands – Regularly sit, reach, talk or hear; occasionally stand, walk, stoop; lifts up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds occasionally; requires close, distance, depth vision and adjust focus.
