Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Project Controller/Project Cost Analyst for our Power Delivery Solutions team. The role involves budgeting, cost control, and earned value management for transmission and distribution projects with utilities. You will interact with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure on‑time, within‑budget delivery.

Hybrid work with periodic travel to client sites in Kentucky. Ideal candidates reside in KY areas such as Louisville or Lexington and bring strong communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related
  • Three (3) + years of relevant project controls and/or cost analysis experience
  • PowerPlan enterprise project performance software will be strongly preferred
  • Experience in electric power infrastructure projects within transmission, substation and/or distribution design
  • Demonstrated work history of planning, organizing, directing and tracking technical efforts on assigned tasks
  • Capable of tracking cost and schedule status of assigned tasks
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency utilizing MS Project or Primavera P6 with emphasis on MS Excel
  • Experience with Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Developing, monitoring and maintaining engineering and construction project budgets for various sized transmission & distribution projects for public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities
  • Work with Project Management teams using earned value management techniques to ensure forecasts and costs are aligned
  • Share team utilization metrics and address utilization concerns with COE to maintain alignment with project objectives and resource requirements
  • Partner with Engineering Leads and Managers to track and execute client deliverables
  • Develop and produce weekly/monthly project control reports for client and internal management review
  • Interface with the client and internal management to report progress, schedule and risks across a portfolio of electrical distribution projects
  • Assist the project manager with the creation and maintenance of project dashboard reports and KPI tracking

Job description

Leidos Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Controller/Project Cost Analyst to join our Power Delivery Solutions division. In this role, you will work project managers and engineering leads to provide comprehensive Project Management Services that support Leidos' electric utility clients. The Project Controller will be a part of our Strategic Project & Program Consulting Team, ensuring the successful delivery of projects while adhering to Leidos' Mission, Vision, and Values.

This role is hybrid in nature, with remote working capabilities. However, periodic travel to client sites throughout Kentucky area including Louisville and Lexington may be required. Therefore, ideal candidates will be located in these areas.

This position will involve work with forecasts, cost controls, process documentation, risk identification and variance analysis. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, monitoring and maintaining engineering and construction project budgets for various sized transmission & distribution projects for public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities
  • Work with Project Management teams using earned value management techniques to ensure that forecasts and costs are aligned, including the development of recovery plans, to stay within approved limits
  • Share team utilization metrics and address any utilization concerns with Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities Center of Excellence (COE) to maintain alignment with project objectives and resource requirements.
  • Partner closely with Engineering Leads and Managers to track and execute client deliverables
  • Develop and produce weekly/monthly project control reports for client and internal management review.
  • Interfacing directly with the client and internal management to report progress, schedule and risks across a portfolio of electrical distribution projects
  • Assist the project manager with the creation and maintenance of comprehensive project dashboard reports and KPI tracking
Background Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following disciplines: Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related
  • Three (3) + years of relevant project controls and/or cost analysis experience
  • Proven knowledge of PowerPlan enterprise project performance software will be strongly preferred
  • Preferred candidates will demonstrate recent and in-depth expertise in electric power infrastructure projects within transmission, substation and/or distribution design
  • Demonstrated work history of planning, organizing, directing and tracking technical efforts on assigned tasks
  • Should be capable of tracking cost and schedule status of assigned tasks
  • Must be able to interact with customer representatives in an effective manner; Strong writing and verbal communication skills required
  • Proficiency utilizing MS Project or Primavera P6 suite with a heavy emphasis on MS Excel.
  • Previous experience working with Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities would be preferred, but not required
