Job summary

Hensel Phelps in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Project Coordinator to support construction management on complex projects. You will assist in planning, scheduling, budgeting, and documentation, working with construction managers and superintendents.

Training starts on day shift, then transitions to 3rd/night shift after training. Responsibilities include coordinating resources, managing submittals/shop drawings, developing schedules, liaising with clients, and supporting cost controls and risk

Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business preferred.
  • 0-5+ years' experience in construction-related position.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to function as part of a high-performance team.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods, facilities operations and building systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office 365; experience with MS Project and Adobe Suite.

Project Coordinator Responsibilities

Project Coordinator (PC) responsibilities include working closely with Construction Managers and Superintendents to prepare comprehensive action plans, including resources, timeframes, and budgets for projects. PCs perform various coordinating tasks, like schedule and risk management, along with administrative duties, like maintaining project documentation and handling financial queries. The Project Coordinator's duties are to ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget and meet high quality standards.

This role will start on day shift for training. Once trained this role will move to 3rd/night shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure safety is properly incorporated into job planning and execution; promote accountability among staff members and subcontractors as it relates to the project safety policies; and enforce these policies by actively participating in all safety-related functions
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information
  • Materials management including submittals, shop drawings, tracking/expediting material deliveries
  • Assist in development and updates to the project schedule; compartmentalize projects into manageable portions and establish completion timeframes
  • Liaise with clients to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives
  • Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management
  • Ensure clients' needs are met as projects evolve
  • Preparation of monthly Owner Pay Applications
  • Assist in budget preparation
  • Assist with monthly margin analysis
  • Analyze risks and opportunities
  • Project procurement management
  • Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants
  • Use tools to monitor working hours, plans, and expenditures
  • Issue all appropriate legal paperwork (e.g., contracts and terms of agreement)
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests
  • Run weekly staff and subcontractor meetings
  • Develop, manage, and maintain cost controls and labor recaps in conjunction with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent
  • Process, estimate and negotiate change orders with the owner and subcontractors
  • Ensure appropriate quality controls measures are being utilized.
Minimum Education Required

High School/GED

Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business preferred
  • 0-5+ years' experience in construction related position
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to function as part of a high-performance team
  • Excellent working knowledge of construction methods, facilities operations and building systems
  • Familiarity with strategic planning
  • Ability to work collaboratively in mobile work environment
  • Software proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Project, Word, SharePoint) and Adobe Suite) and report writing applications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements

The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen. Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate. Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures. Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
