The ideal candidate brings 4+ years in project controls, proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel, and strong communication skills to interact with staff at all levels. This is an on-site role in the Houston area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; some engineering experience in Energy and Chemicals preferred.
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in project controls.
• Experience developing and maintaining engineering schedules.
• Understand basic principles of project management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interact with staff at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Assist the project manager in developing project scope of work for required project controls tasks.
• Study and understand project documents for schedule preparation.
• Work with project and discipline personnel to prepare schedules.
• Convert scope of work into a linked, resourced project schedule.
• Prepare realistic schedules with logical networks; integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules as needed.
• Monitor progress against schedule and prepare progress reports.
• Collect expended man-hours and prepare Earned Value reports and analysis.
• Prepare, review, and issue reports to stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Provide resource forecast data and input into budget forecasting process.
• Support cost discipline to forecast man-hour budgets and assess change impacts on schedules.
• Analyze progress and effects on schedule and advise corrective actions.

Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is looking for a detail-oriented Project Controls Specialist I who is who will be working on engineering projects in the Houston Briar Park office. The ideal candidate will bring some knowledge of cost and scheduling and will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects for well-known clients in the Oil & Gas industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist the project manager in developing project scope of work for required Project Controls tasks.
• Study and understand all relevant project documents pertaining to the preparation of schedules.
• Work with all relevant project and discipline personnel to prepare schedules.
• Convert the scope of work document into a logically linked, resourced project schedule.
• Prepare realistic, achievable schedules using logical networks and where necessary integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules with an emphasis on the engineering and procurement pieces.
• Monitor progress against project schedule and prepare progress reports.
• Collect expended man-hours and prepare Earned Value reports and analysis.
• Prepare, review, and ensure the timely issue of all relevant reports to stakeholders.
• Provide realistic resource forecast data at a project and corporate level and provide input into the budget forecasting process.
• Support the cost discipline to ensure accurate and timely control and forecasting of man-hour budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests is properly assessed and included in the schedules.
• Analyze progress and effects on schedule and advise necessary corrective actio n.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and maintaining engineering schedules.
• Problem-solving skills, work to resolve complex situations with appropriate management.
• Some knowledge of project management software, specifically Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel.
• Must have an understanding of the basic principles of project management
• Must have a high degree of computer literacy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
