Job summary

Zachry Group in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Sr Project Engineer to support the Project Management Department on design projects across power generation, process, energy and chemical industries.

You will coordinate engineering activities, prepare cost estimates, review drawings, and ensure deliverables meet contractual requirements while collaborating with overseas teams and vendors. The position requires travel as needed and a strong commitment to quality and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
• 5–12 years of experience in Power Generation, Process, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals or Renewable Energy sectors.
• Experience as a Project Engineer preferred; otherwise experience in an engineering firm is acceptable.
• Experience with overseas HVE centers is a plus but not required.
• Strong communication and coordination skills across disciplines and with clients/vendors.

• Monitor work hours, engineering change notices, and project budgets; prepare progress reports.
• Update stakeholders on project outcomes, deliverables, and needs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for talented Sr Project Engineers to join our Project Management Department in Charlotte, NC. This is a great opportunity to get involved in interesting and challenging design projects for clients in various industries predominantly in the power generation, process, energy, and chemical industries.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in planning and organizing assigned aspects of a project, directing the complete technical operations of the project.
• Implement assignments and activities delegated from the Project Manager.
• Assist in developing cost estimates for additional work or contract modifications.
• Coordinate discipline engineering activities for development of engineered deliverables.
• Assist discipline leads to coordinate engineering and design efforts, activities, and deliverables from overseas high value engineering (HVE) office.
• Review engineered drawings for consistency with work scope and adequately address input from disciplines.
• Review reports to ensure consistency with contractual requirements.
• Facilitate Zachry Group’s quality control procedure for deliverable generation, archiving, and distribution/transmittal.
• Ensure field trip reports and meeting minutes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Responsible for distributing all correspondence to the appropriate project members.
• Ensure that all work hour control is being implemented properly; Engineering Change Notices are being identified and reported to the Project Manager.
• Prepare progress reports.
• Support preparation of interactive planning sessions for scheduling engineering activities.
• Review and evaluate staff expenditures and implement corrective actions or adjustments as required to address overall performance efficiencies for the engineering team.
• Update, inform and clarify project outcomes, deliverables, potential problems, and project needs.
• Experienced and high performing individuals may perform the following on small projects:
• Define the work scope and prepare overall schedules and budgets.
• Control assigned aspects of a project, including monitoring project schedules and budgets, evaluating project productivity and monitoring quality of deliverables.
• Update schedules and implement corrections or adjustments when necessary.
• Review and evaluate staff expenditures and implement corrective actions or adjustments as required to address overall performance efficiencies for the engineering team.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• 5 to 12 years of experience in the Power Generation industry, Process industry, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, and/or Renewable Energy sectors.
• Experience as a Project Engineer preferred. Otherwise, discipline experience within an engineering firm is necessary.
• Experience in working with overseas HVE centers preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills are required to provide effective intra and inter-discipline coordination on projects, as well as effective communication with clients and vendors.
• Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.
• Willingness to learn and work on a variety of tasks within multiple industries.
• Will be based in the Charlotte, NC office, but willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as required.
