Job summary

Marathon Petroleum's Los Angeles Refinery is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to lead budgets, forecasts, and cost reports for capital and expense projects. The role focuses on cost control, scheduling, and EV management across multi-project portfolios, coordinating with PM, engineering, procurement, and accounting teams.

The position offers on-site schedules (9/80, 5/40, or 4/1) with core hours 8 AM–3 PM, and after-hours calls monthly. Travel is minimal; relocation may be available.

Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of project stage gate and development processes, stage gate deliverables, and multi-discipline estimating experience.
• Must have field construction experience and a track record of performance delivery.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365: Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and manages project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
• Tracks actual costs against baseline budgets and analyzes variances.
• Implements cost control measures and recommends corrective actions.
• Develops and maintains detailed project schedules using industry-standard software.
• Integrates scope, schedule, and cost data to support execution.
• Identifies schedule risks and develops mitigation strategies.
• Applies earned value management (EVM) to monitor performance.
• Generates and interprets project performance metrics (CPI, SPI).
• Provides dashboards and executive summaries for stakeholders.
• Ensures adherence to project controls standards and contractual requirements.
• Mentors junior project controls staff.
