Job summary

Enerflex Ltd in Houston, TX, seeks a Project Controls Lead to guide cost, schedule, and forecasting for large-scale power generation EPC projects. You will run the integrated controls program and report to the Manager, Project Controls - Major Projects, partnering with project teams to ensure timely, accurate forecasts.

The role requires a 4-year degree plus 10 years of EPC/EPF experience (or 14 years without a degree), strong SAP expertise, and exceptional organizational and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• 4 year degree plus 10 years’ experience, or 14 years’ experience in Finance, Accounting or Engineering in EPC/EPF projects.
• Flexibility to work in growth-focused organization in team or independent settings.
• Highly organized with the ability to multitask.
• Detail oriented, self-starter, able to work with little supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication with staff, management, customers and vendors.
• Demonstrated SME-level experience with SAP.

The Project Controls Lead is responsible for leading the integrated project controls effort on large-scale power generation projects and/or a portfolio of smaller projects, ensuring project leadership has an accurate, timely, and forward-looking view of cost, schedule, progress, resources, risks, changes, cash flow, and forecast outcomes. Within the company’s matrix organization, this position will report functionally to the Manager, Project Controls - Major Projects with project execution responsibilities reporting to the Project Director and/or Project Manager.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

Administrative

Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Controls Management Plan, including governance, calendars, procedures, systems, dashboards, and reporting requirements.
Maintain standardized Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
Manage project staffing plans and resource requirements.
Maintain employee onboarding, mentoring, and training programs.
Implement and maintain cost, progress and reporting systems, as required by project contracts or departmental needs.
Implement and promote continuous improvement of departmental policies, procedures, systems, and tools.
Prepare and support presentation of weekly and monthly project reports for clients and management, as required.
Promote Safety and Quality initiatives.
Support Project Management and the Power Generation Product Lines as needed.
If required, manage employee performance, goals, coaching, and annual evaluations.
Follow and maintain all project control-related SOx/Audit processes and documentation, as required.

Cost

Support proposal estimating, bid analysis, scope definition, and cash flow forecasting.
Develop and maintain project budgets, including scope changes and budget transfers.
Manage payment milestones, invoicing, and change orders.
Maintain cost forecasts for labor, materials, equipment, engineering, subcontractors, and commissioning.
Support subcontract administration, pricing analysis, invoice approvals, and claims mitigation.
Monitor project costs through reporting, variance analysis, forecasting, and cost mitigation.
Prepare and maintain cash flow reports.

Progress

Assist with development and maintenance of project progress measurement systems.
Assist with establishing rules of credit and planned progress curves.
Report actual versus planned progress and recommend corrective actions.
Assist Scheduler/Planner with verification of subcontractor progress and payment milestones.

Schedule

Develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules.
Assist with resource-loading schedules with relevant cost information.
Maintain alignment with the Scheduler/Planner on schedule implications to cost.
Support schedule claims analysis and mitigation efforts with relevant cost data.

Support Project Management in maintaining project risk management processes and tools.
Facilitate risk reviews and monitor action items through completion.

Qualifications

• 4 year degree plus 10 years’ experience, or 14 years’ experience working in a Finance, Accounting or Engineering discipline, specifically in EPC or EPF projects in the oil and gas industry, in lieu of degree
• Flexibility in working with a growth-oriented organization in a team or independently.
• Highly organized with the ability to perform multiple tasks.
• Must be a detail oriented, self-starter and able to work with little supervision while maintaining goals/tasks.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills and able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers and vendors.
• Demonstrated SME-level experience in working with SAP.

Physical Requirements

Fast-paced general office environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity. Domestic and international travel is possible on occasion.
