Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern to apply standard engineering techniques, assist lead engineers, and support project duties across market segments in Kansas City.

You will work on design updates, perform tasks under supervision, and contribute to safety, quality, and process improvements during the internship. Enrollment in a related Bachelor's program with a minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a post-secondary education/technical certificate program in a related field.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Prior internship/related experience preferred.
• Involvement in campus/community activities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Construction

The Construction group is responsible for construction phase services in the design-build process and support for safety and health, estimating, pre-construction, field operations, quality and project management. This includes multiple project execution approaches, including self-perform, multi-subcontractor, construction only and program management.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field from an accredited program.

• Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

• Prior internship and/or related experience preferred.

• Involvement on campus or in the community.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
