Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Area Lead in Florida. You will lead project controls efforts, align service lines, and serve as a key contact for regional leadership, while fostering HDR’s employee-owned culture and collaborative environment.

You will guide planning, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, and reporting for engineering and construction projects, working with designers, contractors, inspectors and client teams to deliver risk-aware, on-time results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years in project controls on engineering/construction projects.
  • Experience in planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, and reports.
  • Proven ability to manage proposals, contracts, and client relationships.
  • Strong decision-making, leadership, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Host and lead project controls activities, meetings, and awareness initiatives.
  • Serve as area first point of contact for the region, aligning services and strategy.
  • Represent the area to leadership and translate direction down to staff.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs, reporting to project teams and clients.
  • Ensure change procedures, cost controls, and schedules are followed.
  • Extract scope quantities from drawings and support coordination of schedules.

In the role of Project Controls Area Lead, we'll count on you to:
  • Host lunch and learns, organizational meetings, support general awareness initiatives of project controls
  • Support business group, market sector, or other needs the area has of project controls as area first point of contact
  • Represents the area to the region and national leadership, able to take direction from the leadership back down to the area
  • Awareness of the 6 service lines within Project Controls, ability to support project planning efforts on how to align services, options, and strategy
  • Build future project controls leaders and identify development opportunities for staff

While maintaining work on specific projects to include:

  • Partner with designers, contractors, inspectors and other third-party entities to proactively identify, communicate and resolve scope and pricing variances
  • Establish a procedural framework for preparing, reporting and reconciling variances, including developing and/or enhancing reporting procedures and tools
  • Manage and enforce adherence to project controls practices and procedures, including change management and records management
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators and report to project and program staff and client
  • Proactively seek collaboration and cooperation
  • Set up and lead coordination meetings
  • Review project change documentation and ensure compliance with change procedures and contract specifications Establish project schedules, forecast and cost controls procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to extract scope quantities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction, engineering or related field
  • Certifications (one or more): CPE, CEP, PSP, EVP, PMI-SP, PMP, CCM, PRMP, DRMP, CFCC, PE, MCSA: BI Reporting
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in project controls work on engineering and construction projects, including planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports
  • Ability to manage proposal preparation, contract review and negotiation, client relationship and win strategy for medium to large EPC Projects
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long- and short-term tasks simultaneously
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
