Job summary

Gilbane Building in Houston seeks a Project Controller to lead financial administration on mega projects across Texas, traveling to sites as needed.

You will guide project teams, ensure adherence to Gilbane policies, and communicate profitability and risk to leadership. The role requires 8–10 years of project accounting experience on large commercial builds and a relevant degree.

  • Ensures accuracy and completion of project forecast.
  • Assists in financial closing including risk/opportunity analysis.
  • Monitors key indicators for risk management and informs leadership.

Overview

Gilbane is seeking a Project Controller to lead all financial administration and fiscal management aspects of a mega project, or multiple large/mid-size projects while ensuring all team members are following Gilbane financial policies and procedures and communicating any potential profitability or risks to leadership. This role offers the opportunity to work on projects across Texas and requires regular travel to project sites.

Responsibilities
  • Trains and supports project teams in all project accounting procedures
  • Supervises and trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks; manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of project forecast
  • Assists in the financial closing process including development of risk and opportunity analysis
  • Works and acts as an Independent Accountant during project forecast meetings to mitigate financial risk
  • Evaluates change management for inconsistencies and risk impacts on projects
  • Monitors key indicators for managing and analyzing risk projects while keeping Accounting Manager and/or Business Controller informed on any noted concerns
  • Assists the Accounting Manager or Business Controller with monthly Work in Process (WIP)
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members
  • Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • 8-10 years of experience project accounting experience on commercial construction projects valued at 100M or larger
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to learn construction management and payment management software
