Job summary

Gilbane Building Company seeks a Project Controller to lead all financial administration and fiscal management on a mega project or multiple large projects, with regular travel to Houston and San Antonio sites. You will guide project accounting, forecasting, and risk analysis to ensure profitability and adherence to Gilbane policies.

You will mentor teams, communicate progress to leadership, and support a culture of safety, integrity, and excellence across projects in Texas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of experience in project accounting on large commercial construction projects.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and supports project teams in all project accounting procedures.
  • Supervises and trains direct reports; manages workload and performance.
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of project forecast.
  • Assists in the financial closing process including risk and opportunity analysis.
  • Acts as Independent Accountant during forecast meetings to mitigate risk.
  • Evaluates change management for inconsistencies and risk impacts.
  • Monitors indicators for managing risk projects and informs leadership.

Job Locations: US-TX-Houston | US-TX-San Antonio

Overview

Gilbane is seeking a Project Controller to lead all financial administration and fiscal management aspects of a mega project, or multiple large/mid‑size projects while ensuring all team members are following Gilbane financial policies and procedures and communicating any potential profitability or risks to leadership. This role offers the opportunity to work on projects across Texas and requires regular travel to project sites.

Responsibilities
  • Trains and supports project teams in all project accounting procedures
  • Supervises and trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks; manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of project forecast
  • Assists in the financial closing process including development of risk and opportunity analysis
  • Works and acts as an Independent Accountant during project forecast meetings to mitigate financial risk
  • Evaluates change management for inconsistencies and risk impacts on projects
  • Monitors key indicators for managing and analyzing risk projects while keeping Accounting Manager and/or Business Controller informed on any noted concerns
  • Assists the Accounting Manager or Business Controller with monthly Work in Process (WIP)
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members
  • Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports
Qualifications

Experience / Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • 8–10 years of experience project accounting on commercial construction projects valued at 100M or larger
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to learn construction management and payment management software

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.
