Job description

H2M’s Industrial Hygiene and Forensics team supports clients, insurers, and project partners by investigating failures, exposures, and complex loss events to determine their cause and impact. From evaluating building materials, fires, and structural damage to assessing hazardous substances such as asbestos, chemicals, and contaminants, our engineers and scientists deliver clear, defensible findings.

As a Project Building Consultant specializing in large, complex property losses (fire, water, and storm-related), you will lead building-focused investigations while coordinating with the forensics team to assess damage, identify contributing factors, and define the extent of loss.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and performing field inspections and necessary site visits to evaluate the scope of work/damage. This includes building systems, construction materials, and damage from water intrusion or severe weather.
  • Produce clear, defensible, and well-documented findings to support stakeholders across the restoration, insurance, and remediation industries. As well as supporting large-scale commercial loss projects, including developing scopes of repair and cost estimates to aid in claims and recovery efforts.
  • Assist with cost estimating medium to large commercial and residential projects using industry standard estimating software in the restoration, insurance, and remediation fields.
  • Accurately scope and price substantial losses involving multiple building systems and provide practical recommendations for repair and restoration.
  • Mitigate risk of under- or over-estimation, which can directly impact project profitability and client trust.
  • Interface with clients and project representatives - adjusters, agents, insureds, etc. Navigate insurance carrier expectations and documentation standards.
  • Document, review, analyze, and schedule contracts, change orders, correspondence, daily reports, meeting minutes, monthly reports, and any additional documents related to the project file.
Education & Qualifications
  • 5 to 10 years of estimating and related work experience in the restoration, insurance, and remediation fields.
  • A bachelor’s degree is highly desirable.
  • PMP/RRO certifications are a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated experience estimating various-sized commercial/residential losses, and have an effective understanding of causes of loss, expected damage, and repair methods.
  • Experience in restoration contracting in the field, specializing in working with insurance companies and responsibilities related to scheduling, project management, and estimating.
  • Knowledge and experience in appraisal, mitigation, cost analysis, construction management, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills to produce expert reports to support our clients in making important, high-value decisions.
  • Proficiency in working with Xactimate, Symbility, RS Means, or other estimating software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated negotiation skills required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to support and solve client questions and requests.
  • This position requires travel as most project assignments and claim-related work will typically be concentrated within the Tri-State area, including regions from Philadelphia, PA to Newark, NJ, the New York City boroughs, and throughout Connecticut. However, work assignments may span across all H2M office locations, including, but not limited to New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Florida. [Valid driver’s license required].
Additional Requirements
  • As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.
  • Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available.
  • Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000 annually.
