Job summary

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) seeks an experienced project-based designer/lofter to develop complex marine structural designs and mentor junior designers. You will review project requirements, meet with clients, and draft reports while ensuring compliance with USCG and ABA regulations.

The assignment runs Oct 1, 2026 to Apr 2027 and may become permanent based on project needs. Travel may be required, and benefits are discussed upon engagement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in maritime lofting or design support.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ship Constructor experience in structures required.
  • AutoCAD certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Strong AutoCAD and Rhino skills.
  • Experience with licensed engineering firms or marine production/transport industries.
  • Thorough understanding of marine construction materials.

Responsibilities

Description

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) is seeking an experienced designer/lofter for a project-based assignment. In this role, you will develop complex marine structural designs, provide guidance to junior designers, and perform quality assurance for the project. The assignment is expected to run from October 1, 2026, through April 2027. This position does have a possibility of becoming permanent, depending on upcoming project needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lofting and Design
  • Evaluate engineering concepts and develop functional structural designs of marine vessels and components.
  • Produce new structural plans with little or no guidance.
  • Provide design support to project team members by reviewing project requirements, meeting with clients and project team members, and drafting project reports.
  • Provide feedback to the project manager on project progress, client issues, and potential problems with proposed solutions.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with USCG and ABA regulations.
Quality
  • Document work activities, significant project events, and project related communications by maintaining a personal log and company files.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of internal design processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Safeguard client and EBDG proprietary materials, ideas, copyrights, and inventions.
Learning
  • Understand and follow EBDG safety procedures and policies.
  • Foster a continuous learning philosophy.
Requirements
  • Minimum of five years of experience within the maritime industry, providing lofting or design support.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ship Constructor experience in structures required.
  • AutoCAD certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Strong AutoCAD and Rhino skills.
  • Work experience with licensed engineering firms or with marine related production or transportation industries.
  • Thorough understanding of marine construction materials.

Physical and Mental Demands

Work is primarily performed in a remote?home?office environment; however, the role requires flexibility to travel by car, plane, and vessel. Must be able to perform essential functions of vessel inspections, which may include climbing ladders,?enter?confined spaces, and conducting physical tasks in varied environment conditions. This position is project based and may be eligible for company sponsored benefits during the duration of employment. Salary Description

$43 - $60 per hour, depending on experience
