Job summary

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Architecture or Engineering (required).
  • 1–5 years of experience in construction, architecture, engineering, building assessment, or forensic investigation.
  • Understanding of interior and exterior construction systems and details.
  • Familiarity with building systems and construction materials.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support forensic investigation and building condition assessment projects by assisting with inspections, technical evaluations, project documentation, and report preparation.
  • Apply and develop knowledge of current and historic NYC construction materials, systems, and practices while assisting with the evaluation of building conditions and investigative approaches.
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, proposals, and other project deliverables that communicate findings clearly and professionally.
  • Assist with project communication, documentation, administrative tasks, and client interactions as needed.
  • Perform and participate in field inspections requiring roof access, mechanical spaces, sub-grade areas, scaffold inspections, and other challenging site conditions.

Position Overview

The Project Associate (PA), Forensics supports forensic investigation and physical condition assessment projects while developing technical expertise in building systems, construction materials, and failure analysis. Working under the guidance of Directors and Project Managers, the Project Associate assists with field investigations, technical documentation, and project execution. This role provides opportunities to lead smaller assignments while building the skills necessary for increased project responsibility and professional growth.

What You’ll Do
  • Support forensic investigation and building condition assessment projects by assisting with inspections, technical evaluations, project documentation, and report preparation.
  • Apply and develop knowledge of current and historic NYC construction materials, systems, and practices while assisting with the evaluation of building conditions and investigative approaches.
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, proposals, and other project deliverables that communicate findings clearly and professionally.
  • Assist with project communication, documentation, administrative tasks, and client interactions as needed.
  • Perform and participate in field inspections requiring roof access, mechanical spaces, sub-grade areas (basements/crawl spaces), supported scaffold inspections, suspended scaffold inspections, and other challenging site conditions.
  • Obtain and maintain NYC Department of Buildings recognized Supported Scaffold User and Suspended Scaffold User certifications (training provided, if required).
  • Maintain awareness of current and historic NYC Building Codes and industry standards while effectively managing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Contribute to project teams and support other project types and initiatives as needed.
Required
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • BS or MS in Architecture or Engineering
  • 1–5 years of experience in construction, architecture, engineering, building assessment, or forensic investigation
  • Understanding of interior and exterior construction systems and details
  • Familiarity with building systems and construction materials
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment
Preferred
  • Experience with building investigations, condition assessments, or restoration projects
  • Familiarity with NYC Building Codes and construction practices
  • Progress toward professional licensure (RA or PE)
  • Experience working on building envelope, façade, restoration, or assessment projects
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Based in NYC with a hybrid work schedule
  • Standard hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Fieldwork required approximately 50% of the time
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $80,000 – $100,000, based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
