Job summary

Gensler is seeking a Project Architect for Critical Facilities in Chicago to lead and coordinate design through construction documents. You will translate sketches into realized 2D/3D models, collaborate with Practice Area Leaders, and mentor team members.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of architectural design experience, licensure, and a strong portfolio in data centers or similarly complex projects. Proficiency with Revit and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred; portfolio submission is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school.
  • Licensure required.
  • 10+ years of experience in architectural design.
  • Experience within Critical Facilities projects or similarly complex projects.
  • Proficiency with Revit and Adobe Creative Suite; other tools are advantageous.
  • Portfolio and resume in PDF format for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on design projects in critical facilities, life sciences, and healthcare practice areas, from programming to documentation.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
  • Manage documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, accessibility, and building envelope consultants.
  • Assist in resolving complex technical and design issues.
  • Assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
  • Provide project team coordination for finished plans, specifications, and material selections.
  • Participate in construction administration and review submittals and finish samples.

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate on design projects in the critical facilities, life sciences, and healthcare practice areas, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development and documentation
  • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
  • Documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)
  • Assist in resolving complex technical and design issues
  • Assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination
  • Provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction
  • Participate in the construction administration of projects and review of submittals and finish samples
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school
  • Licensure required
  • 10+ years of experience in the profession of architectural design
  • Experience within Critical Facilities projects (i.e. data centers, command and control centers, high-performance computing, etc.) healthcare projects, or similarly complex projects (i.e. science/labs/national labs, light-industrial/manufacturing, high-tech manufacturing, healthcare, aviation & transportation, etc.) preferred
  • Proficiency with SketchUp, 3D Max, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not required
  • Strong Revit, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Office experience desired. AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, Enscape, VRay also beneficial
  • Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
  • Experience working directly with contractors
  • Experience resolving complex technical and design issues
  • Experience performing zoning and code analysis in multiple jurisdictions
  • Understanding of how buildings are constructed, along with the ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done
  • Understanding of sustainable and universal design concepts
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills
  • Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification
