Job summary

Gensler in Newport Beach is seeking a Project Architect to lead design development for workplace, retail and hospitality projects. You will collaborate with senior leadership, coordinate with consultants, and mentor junior staff while delivering constructible, sustainable design solutions.

You will produce BIM models and construction drawings, manage multi-disciplinary coordination, and help guide clients through design decisions in a fast-paced studio environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school.
  • Licensure required to practice architecture.
  • 8+ years of experience in architectural design across multiple projects.
  • Experience with BIM and coordination across consultants.
  • Knowledge of building codes and zoning analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with senior design leadership from early development through the implementation of design solutions.
  • Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.
  • Manage project team and coordination of consultants.
  • Produce BIM models and construction drawings.
  • Resolve challenging technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative, technical and constructible solutions.
  • Provide Mentorship and coaching to grow junior staff members.
  • Participate in office culture and initiatives.

Your Role

As a Gensler Project Architect, your creativity and thoughtfulness will create opportunities in the authorship of engaging human experiences in the built environment. You have professional skills and technical acumen which enable your development and execution of design. In this role, you will evolve your existing strengths while growing towards a leadership role in guiding our clients to design solutions. Based in a studio of our Newport Beach office, you will join a team serving clients in purpose-built environments for workplace, retail and hospitality. Through our close partnership with clients in such active fields of development, we are able to leverage design to achieve livable cities, reductions in global warming potential, and an engaging work experience for occupants of our projects.

What You Will Do
  • Engage directly with senior design leadership from early development through the implementation of design solutions

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school
  • Licensure required
  • 8+ years of experience in the profession of architectural design
  • Strong experience working with Revit and Rhino
  • Proficiency with SketchUp, 3D Max, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not required
  • Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
  • Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development
  • Effective communicator, collaborative and team-conscious
  • Experience working directly with contractors
  • A quick learner with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience resolving complex technical and design issues
  • Experience performing zoning and code analysis in multiple jurisdictions
  • Understanding of how buildings are constructed, along with the ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done
  • Understanding of sustainable and universal design concepts
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills
  • Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification
  • The base salary will be estimated between $98,000 - $150,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
