Job summary

Hord Coplan Macht, Inc. (HCM) is seeking a Project Architect with 5–10 years of experience to join our Senior Living team. The position is based in our Alexandria, VA office and involves leading design, technical development, and client coordination.

Ideal candidates have strong design and presentation skills, experience with construction documents, and the ability to collaborate with consultants. Licensing is preferred, with opportunities for leadership and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop understanding of project design philosophy and convey to team.
  • Contribute to technical design, development, coordination, and quality control across all project phases.
  • Collaborate with consultants to ensure coordinated design and performance goals.
  • Prepare design documents and construction documents across project phases.
  • Deliver complete, accurate, and coordinated project documentation.
  • Lead client meetings and coordinate with sub-consultants as required.

About Our Search

Our Baltimore, Denver, Alexandria, and North Carolina offices are looking for strong Project Designers/Project Architects to join our award-winning Senior Living team. Our next team member will have excellent communication, design, graphic, and visualization skills. This individual will manage, organize, and coordinate with the design and technical project teams throughout the design process to successfully execute architectural projects.

About The Position
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the project’s design philosophy and provides input in developing a design and building performance strategy and effectively conveys this to assigned team members when appropriate
  • Contributes to the project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination, and quality control efforts during all phases of project work, in close collaboration with the Senior Designer
  • Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documents to support these solutions
  • Actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure the project deliverables are coordinated, integrated, and support the design concept and performance goals of the project
  • Contributes to the preparation of design documents and detailed development of construction documents during all project phases
  • Delivers complete, accurate, and coordinated project documentation
  • Advances the production of schematic, design development and construction documents in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost and design intent
  • Maintains awareness of evolving building technology and systems
  • Reviews shop drawings, material samples and CD’s for conformance with design
  • Maintains contact with clients, consultants, and contractors during all project phases, participating in marketing, client and owner presentations as required
About You
  • 5-10 years of experience in the Architectural field
  • License preferred. Non-licensed applicants with required years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • A passion for designing high-quality, built environments that enrich the lives of those living with age and income restrictions
  • Experience with Senior Living or Hospitality projects preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience with project teams
  • Excellent design, graphic, and presentation skills
  • Experience leading client meetings and sub-consultant coordination
  • Experience in preparing construction documents and construction administration
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and regulations
  • LEED and/or WELL Building credentials are a plus

The projected base salary for this full-time position is$75,000-90,000. Hord Coplan Macht’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, as well as the individual’s education, experience, and skill sets.
