Job summary

SCB is seeking a talented Project Architect for our San Francisco office. We are a national, multi-disciplinary design firm focusing on multi-family residential, adaptive reuse, academic, and aviation projects.

You will collaborate with a team of professionals on all aspects of design and development under the supervision of a Project Manager or Principal, coordinating with consultants to create design studies and detailed drawings.

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional degree in architecture.
  • 10+ years post-graduate, full-time experience in an architectural firm.
  • Licensed Architect in the U.S.
  • Strong design sensibility and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead a project with consultants and internal staff.
  • Working knowledge of local zoning ordinances and building codes.
  • Technical knowledge of building systems and material assemblies.
  • Experience with RFI responses, site visits, and BIM coordination.
  • Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, Newforma and Excel; familiarity with Enscape, SketchUp, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in Multi-family Residential, Hospitality, Higher Education, or Aviation projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement project design philosophy and drive execution through design and construction phases.
  • Develop design and technical drawings, visualizations, and studies with project leaders.
  • Organize SCB’s project team and coordinate with consultants and clients.
  • Manage time and tasks to meet project deadlines; oversee junior staff.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including design consultants, contractors, clients, and authorities.
  • Lead team meetings and client presentations with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and train junior staff in a constructive manner.
  • Research and promote innovative system applications to improve work product.
  • Engage with the project team with a positive, team-first attitude.

Job description

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about design, collaborative by nature, and possess an advanced understanding of building materials, systems, detailing, and construction methods. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of talented professionals on all aspects of project design and development under the direct supervision of a Project Manager and/or Principal. You will also closely collaborate with the project team, including consultants, to prepare design studies, graphic representations, technical drawings, studies, and other materials related to architectural design.

Your Qualifications
  • Accredited professional degree in architecture
  • 10+ years post-graduate, full-time working experience in an architectural firm
  • Licensed Architect in the U.S.
  • A strong design sensibility and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead a project including consultants and internal staff
  • Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local zoning ordinances and building codes
  • Technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts
  • Capable of performing all construction phase activities including review of shop drawings, responding to Contractor questions (RFI’s), conducting site visits and participating in BIM coordination meetings
  • Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, Newforma and Excel; familiarity with software programs such as Enscape, SketchUp, Rhino, Affinity and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Multi-family Residential, Hospitality, Higher Education, or Aviation project experience preferred
The Role
  • Implement project design philosophy and work toward the successful execution of the project through design and construction phases
  • Develop design and technical drawings, visualizations, and studies in collaboration with project leaders
  • Organize the work efforts of SCB’s project team on a day-to-day basis and function as the primary facilitator of communication between the in-house team and external consultants
  • Manage time and organize tasks effectively to meet project deadlines, including oversight of junior team members
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including direct coordination with design consultants, contractors, clients and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Lead team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentor and train junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner
  • Research and promote opportunities for new or innovative system applications; proactively look for and implement processes to improve work product and efficiency.
  • Engage with the project and studio team with a positive, team-first attitude and willingness to learn and contribute to the project and firm’s success
