Job description

The Project Architect is a licensed professional who oversees the development of the design of a project and will often collaborate with a design principal or principal-in-charge along with the production of the construction documents. This individual will also oversee the construction administration of a project if the client has retained the firm for such services. The Project Architect is heavily relied upon to ensure the quality, accuracy, professionalism and the facilitation of the final architectural product. The Project Architect moves the firm's projects forward, coordinates with consultants, and realizes all the instruments of service agreed upon in the contract.

Project Architect's primary responsibility focuses on elements involved with the instruments of services, such as managing consultants, code compliance and production. This person may be expected to fulfill both the Project Architect and Project Manager role on smaller simpler projects with a reasonable schedule and fee, whereas larger more complex projects with reduced time would carry an expectation of just serving the role of Project Architect.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist the principal architects and project managers with the following: Analyze and develop approaches to the creation of architectural design, design development and construction documents
  • Develop, modify and/or review drawings according to established standards
  • Review developer’s architectural documents for contractual compliance with design standards
  • Ensure documentation for all phases conforms to QA/QC and Best Practice Standards applying proper QA/QC methods throughout project
  • Understand and translate design intent, product and code research, into technical documents
  • Completion of feasibility and concept studies
  • Master planning
  • Provide construction administration services – overseeing the project completion
  • Development of As-Built drawing sets to deliver to client
  • Digital rendering and 3D modeling presentations/design drawings
  • If sufficiently experienced, take the leadership roles of project manager and/or job captain
  • Client, consultant and contractor project information coordination
  • Maintain relationships with clients, sub-contractors and construction team, answer questions and provide solutions
  • Creating client presentations and interviews
  • Mentoring and directing work of graduate architects in developing solutions to technical and design detail problems following established standards
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree or Master of Architecture (M.Arch) preferred
  • Experience: Must be a licensed, registered Architect with 8–10 years of experience in the practice of architecture and/or architectural design/documentation
Necessary Skills
  • Strong knowledge of design principles and the ability to interpret design concepts and layouts, including commonly used standards, practices and procedures within the profession
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability including USGBD / LEED, LEED accreditation preferred
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans
  • Thorough knowledge of codes and zoning regulations
  • Strong creative and technical thinking skills
  • Strong presentation & graphic communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, graphically, verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in applicable BIM and CAD software(s); more importantly Autodesk Revit
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong administrative and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work within budgetary guidelines providing high quality service to clients: consultant management, schedule, construction administration, etc
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Leadership and mentorship of staff and internal project team
  • Ability to work across several project types
  • Focus on client project team relationships related to contractual obligations, project expectations, quality of service and overall communication amongst all parties
  • Ability to build relationships and work successfully with many different constituents and personnel
