Job summary

CFS is seeking a Project Accountant to own project-level accounting for a $100M construction portfolio. You’ll drive billing, subcontractor contracts, liens, and high-volume material invoicing, working directly with project managers and leadership.

In this role you’ll manage weekly check runs, enforce compliance, and maintain detailed job-cost ledgers to protect profitability, while communicating with clients, vendors, and internal teams with accountability and initiative.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of dedicated project or construction accounting experience.
  • Understanding of construction financial workflows, lien waivers, and job costing.
  • Strong attention to detail and efficient data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end accounting workflows for projects, including billing and closeout.
  • Ensure strict compliance for subcontractor contracts, change orders, and waivers.
  • Handle high-volume material invoices and weekly check runs for civil team.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients, vendors and subcontractors to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with project managers and leadership to provide job-cost visibility and improve workflows.
  • Review coding and maintain job-cost ledgers to protect profitability.

Job description

This position plays a key financial role for assigned construction projects within a thriving $100M organization, guiding financial workflows from contract initiation through final project billing. As the Project Accountant, you will take full ownership of project-level accounting, subcontractor contracts, lien waivers, and high-volume material invoicing. This role balances rigorous compliance management with direct, proactive communication across project managers, clients, and vendors.

The company is looking for a grounded, detail-oriented professional who carries themselves with a steady energy and brings a high level of personal ownership to their collaborative team environment. You will work directly alongside company leadership, managing weekly check runs, driving compliance across supplier waivers and change orders, and ensuring seamless financial continuity for critical construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Accounting Leadership: Lead end-to-end accounting workflows for assigned construction projects, including contract administration, billing, accounts payable, and project closeout.
  • Compliance Management: Drive and enforce strict compliance for subcontractor contracts, change orders, lien waivers, and supplier releases.
  • Civil Department AP: Manage high-volume material invoices and weekly check runs for the self-performing civil construction team.
  • Vendor & Client Communication: Maintain direct phone and email correspondence with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve billing issues and ensure timely payments.
  • Project Manager Partnership: Collaborate directly with project managers and executive leadership to provide accurate job-cost visibility, troubleshoot issues, and champion workflow improvements.
  • Financial Integrity: Review transactional coding, verify compliance schedules, and maintain detailed job-cost ledgers to protect project profitability.
Requirements
  • 3 or more years of dedicated project accounting or construction accounting experience.
  • Understanding of construction financial workflows, lien waivers, job costing, and contract administration is preferred.
  • High attention to detail, strong 10-key speed and accuracy, and comfort handling direct phone and email communications.
  • Demonstrated history of taking initiative, exercising critical thinking, and maintaining high accountability in previous roles
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year plus annual and discretionary performance bonuses
