Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business required.
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience; job cost accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Excel preferred.
  • Familiarity with WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Construction or field services experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Translate project data into the job cost structure in the ERP so PMs have a live budget.
  • Attend kickoff meetings, reviews, and close-out calls to provide cost visibility.
  • Flag cost trends, budget overruns and margin risks to the PM team.
  • Collaborate on change orders, document cost impacts and ensure timely billing.
  • Coordinate with estimators to compare actual vs bid assumptions.

Job description

Epoxy Coating Specialists ("ECS"), located in Shawnee, KS, is a fast-paced commercial and industrial-focused seamless flooring installation contractor with nearly 30 years in the business. ECS is seeking a Project Accountant to serve as the financial liaison to project operations. The Project Accountant is deeply integrated into the full project lifecycle from pre-bid estimate review through final close-out, working daily alongside Project Managers, Estimators, Operations, and the Operational and Financial Accounting Teams.

Position Summary:

The Project Accountant is the operational engine of the finance function at each operating company, responsible for accurate job cost tracking, progress billing support, WIP schedule inputs, and revenue recognition support. This role works directly with the Regional Controller alongside Project Billing Coordinators to ensure every project is financially current, accurately billed, and properly coded in NetSuite. The scope and pace of the role varies by entity but includes high volumes of short-duration jobs and multi-month WIP for larger clients and/or Mega Projects.

Primary Responsibilities Inlclude:
Project Management Business Partner
  • Translate estimate data into the job cost structure in the ERP so Project Managers have a live budget to manage against from the start of the job
  • Attend kickoff meetings, job reviews, and close-out calls to provide real-time cost visibility and
  • Proactively flag cost trends, budget overruns, and margin risks to the PM team as they develop - not just at month-end
  • Partner with Project Managers on change order identification, document cost impacts, and ensure timely billing
  • Collaborate with estimators to compare actual project performance against original bid assumptions and sharpen future pricing
Job Cost Accounting & Tracking
  • Support the Project Coordinator on job set up and organization
  • Track, and reconcile job costs for all assigned projects including labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment
  • Monitor actual costs vs. estimated budgets; provide regular job cost reports to Project Managers and field leadership
  • Maintain tracking on large and complex projects in coordination with the Project Manager
Billing, WIP & Revenue Recognition
  • Manage AIA progress billing and invoice submission from mobilization through final close-out
  • Participate and provide information to support the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules each month-end close
  • Support percent-complete calculations and revenue recognition in coordination with the Regional Controller
  • Track retainage, lien waivers, and open receivables; follow up on collections with Project Coordinator
Certified & Union Payroll
  • Prepare certified payroll reports for all applicable prevailing wage and government-funded projects
  • Coordinate union payroll reporting with the Payroll function
Month-End Close & AP Support
  • Assist the Regional Controller with month-end close reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals
  • Review and code vendor invoices to the correct projects and cost categories before routing to Accounts Payable
  • Serve as backup to the Project Coordinator on subcontractor compliance and certificate of insurance requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience; job cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers daily
  • NetSuite experience preferred; Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
  • Familiarity with WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting a strong plus.
  • Construction, specialty contracting, or field services experience preferred.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field operations personnel.
