Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to support project financials from the Oakland office with a hybrid work arrangement. The role focuses on invoicing, month-end closing, and cost reviews across diverse infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include preparing client invoices, managing budgets vs actuals, and generating reports such as WIP and AR aging. Deltek Vantagepoint experience and strong Excel skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
• Architecture/engineering industry experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end closing and reconciliations.
• Prepare and review client invoices for charges; ensure accuracy of labor and expenses.
• Assist Project Manager in reviewing project costs (budget vs actual).
• Research invoicing questions and provide requested documentation.
• Prepare project financial reports (WIP aging, AR aging, budget vs actual).
• Support project setup and maintenance in Deltek Vantagepoint.
• Troubleshoot and resolve project billing issues.

Job description

BKF is a multi-service infrastructure consulting firm providing civil engineering, construction management, environmental, planning, and surveying services across California, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. With offices throughout California and the Portland area, BKF has served transportation, water resources, land development, government, and federal clients for over 110 years.

Responsibilities may include:

• Support the month-end closing process and reconciliations
• Prepare invoices for clients and review draft invoices for appropriate labor and expense charges. Ensure accuracy with billing rates and billing ceilings. Make appropriate changes and reclassifications
• Assist Project Manager in reviewing project costs (budget vs actual)
• Research client invoicing questions and fulfill client requests for invoice support documentation
• Prepare project financial reports (i.e. WIP aging, AR aging, project budget vs actual)
• Support project managers in project setup and project maintenance in Deltek Vantagepoint
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve project billing issues
• Perform other assignments as required
• This position will report to our Oakland office one day per week and the opportunity for hybrid-remote the remainder of the week

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a combination of education and experience
• Experience in Architecture or Engineering industry is preferred
• Exceptional communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong mathematical aptitude
• Solid knowledge of ExcelAttention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Ability to interface with project managers, clients, and architects
• Deltek Vantagepoint Accounting system experience is preferred

• The typical base salary range for this position is anticipated to be $36.00 -$48.00 - an hour and will vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is an hourly position paid biweekly
