Job summary

Oliver / Hatcher Construction seeks a detail-oriented Project Accountant to manage financial activity for multiple construction projects from initial budget setup through final closeout. This fast-paced, collaborative role supports project success by maintaining contracts, costs, budgets, invoices, monthly billings, and financial reporting.

You’ll work with Project Managers, subcontractors, and the Project Accounting Manager to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is acceptable; candidates with an associate degree should be actively working toward a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least two years of accounting experience; construction accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE (Timberline) and Procore is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn and use accounting and project-management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with a collaborative and service-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue monthly AIA pay applications using Procore and/or Excel, ensuring billings to owners and owners’ representatives are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.
  • Initiate Procore ERP integrations as needed, monitor integration status, and work with the appropriate team members to resolve rejected or unsuccessful syncs.
  • Develop and maintain schedules of values; review project budgets and job costs; bill approved subcontractor costs, labor, general conditions, overhead, and fee; and bill or hold retainage in accordance with contract terms.
  • Prepare contractor sworn statements and conditional and unconditional lien waivers as required by each contract.
  • Manage subcontractor payables, including posting approved invoices to job cost, confirming approved subcontracts and revisions, reviewing subcontractor sworn statements and lien waivers, allocating and releasing retainage, and issuing payments upon project funding.
  • Post project general conditions invoices, invoice payments, and job overhead costs to the appropriate projects and cost codes.
  • Review job cost reports, internal project financial reports, and budgets monthly for accuracy; identify variances and resolve discrepancies with the project team.
  • Make project financial report corrections and updates as directed by Project Managers and prepare final budget reports upon job completion.
  • Enter budgets for new projects based on information provided by the Estimating Department.
  • Enter approved owner contract change orders and maintain accurate contract values throughout each project.
  • Perform other accounting duties as directed by the Project Accounting Manager.

Job Summary:

Work Environment and Requirements:

  • Regularly works in an office setting at the Company’s Novi, Michigan office.
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods and perform prolonged computer work, including detailed data entry and financial-report review.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently and maintain a valid driver’s license.
