Job summary

LHH is seeking a skilled project accountant in Charlotte, NC to manage active development and construction project accounting. The role focuses on maintaining records, tracking budgets, processing draws and payments, and ensuring GAAP adherence.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 3+ years of construction/project accounting experience, and strong Excel skills for analysis and reporting. Knowledge of construction finance is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within: Construction Accounting, Property Accounting.
• Strong understanding of job costing and project accounting principles.
• Experience tracking development budgets and construction expenditures.
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Maintain project-level accounting records for active development and construction projects.
• Monitor project budgets, commitments, and expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and process construction draws, vendor invoices, and payment applications.
• Prepare monthly project financial statements and variance analyses.
• Track construction costs and ensure accurate job cost allocations.
• Reconcile project bank accounts, loan activity, and escrow accounts.
• Assist with forecasting cash flow needs and project funding requirements.
• Coordinate with lenders, contractors, developers, and external auditors.
• Support project capitalization and fixed asset accounting upon project completion.
• Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, and financial compliance requirements.
• Ensure accounting records comply with GAAP and company policies.
• Identify process improvements and strengthen internal controls related to development accounting.
