Job summary

CFS in Capitol Heights, MD is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the financial lifecycle of multiple construction projects. You will oversee budgets, costs, and billing from contract setup through closeout, partnering with project managers and leadership.

The ideal candidate has construction accounting, job cost, and AIA billing experience, proficiency with Procore and Textura, strong Excel skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or job-cost accounting.
• Knowledge of AIA billing, progress billing, and construction contracts.
• Understanding of retainage, change orders, WIP schedules, and job costing.
• Experience with construction software such as Sage, Foundations, StarBuilder, Procore, Textura, or similar platforms.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial administration of multiple construction projects from contract setup through project completion.
• Maintain project budgets, cost reports, and financial forecasts.
• Monitor job costs and analyze budget-to-actual variances.
• Assist project managers with financial tracking and profitability analysis.
• Review project contracts and ensure proper setup within accounting systems.
• Track committed costs, subcontractor agreements, change orders, and project expenses.
• Support month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and submit monthly AIA pay applications and progress billings.
• Process billing through client portals such as Procore, Textura, and related systems.
• Track contract values, change orders, retainage, and stored materials.
• Monitor project receivables and coordinate collection efforts as needed.
• Resolve billing discrepancies and support accurate revenue recognition.
• Maintain billing schedules and ensure timely invoicing.
• Process lien waivers, subcontractor compliance documents, and project closeout requirements.
• Maintain certificates of insurance and contract documentation.
• Assist with subcontractor payment applications and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with billing requirements.
• Maintain organized project accounting records and audit support files.

A well-established and highly respected commercial construction manufacturer is seeking a Project Accountant to join its accounting team in Capitol Heights, MD. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with construction accounting, project billing, and job cost experience who wants to play a key role in managing the financial lifecycle of commercial construction projects while partnering closely with project managers and leadership.

What You'll Be Doing

As the Project Accountant, you'll be responsible for overseeing the financial administration of multiple construction projects from contract setup through project completion.

Project Accounting & Job Cost Management

• Maintain project budgets, cost reports, and financial forecasts
• Monitor job costs and analyze budget-to-actual variances
• Assist project managers with financial tracking and profitability analysis
• Review project contracts and ensure proper setup within accounting systems
• Track committed costs, subcontractor agreements, change orders, and project expenses
• Support month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting

Billing & Revenue Management

• Prepare and submit monthly AIA pay applications and progress billings
• Process billing through client portals such as Procore, Textura, and related systems
• Track contract values, change orders, retainage, and stored materials
• Monitor project receivables and coordinate collection efforts as needed
• Resolve billing discrepancies and support accurate revenue recognition

Construction Administration

• Process lien waivers, subcontractor compliance documents, and project closeout requirements
• Maintain certificates of insurance and contract documentation
• Assist with subcontractor payment applications and supporting documentationEnsure compliance with contractual billing requirements
• Maintain organized project accounting records and audit support files

What We're Looking For

• Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or job cost accounting
• Knowledge of AIA billing, progress billing, and construction contracts
• Understanding of retainage, change orders, work-in-progress schedules, and job costing
• Experience with construction software such as Sage, Foundations, StarBuilder, Procore, Textura, or similar platforms
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills with project teams, subcontractors, customers, and leadership
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
