Job summary

McAlvain Companies, Inc. is seeking a Project Accounting Manager for our Special Projects Division. This role will support multiple project teams, ensuring accurate job costs, budgets, and forecasts, reporting to the Controller with a dotted line to the Project Director.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in accounting/finance, 2+ years in construction accounting, and strong Excel and organizational skills. Trimble Viewpoint experience is a plus; state contracts experience is a plus as well.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of accounting experience in commercial construction.
• Experience with Trimble Viewpoint is a plus, not required.
• Experience with state contracts is a plus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain jobs/tasks in ERP, including revenue and cost budgets.
• Monitor budgets and audit costs, report issues to project teams.
• Support monthly revenue and cost projections for projects.
• Review change orders for accuracy before submission.
• Attend jobsite meetings and track issues.
• Prepare payment applications with PM and ensure proper coding.

Duties, Responsibilities, & Expectations:

This position will be responsible for the project accounting of our Special Projects Division of the company. They will report directly to the Controller with a dotted line to the Project Director of our Special Projects division. This position will be supporting multiple project teams across the division, interacting with them and other members of the company daily. The right person for this position will have experience working in accounting underneath a General Contractor, have very strong organizational skills, and an intense attention to detail. Below are a list of responsibilities/expectations for this position.

Project Accounting Management:

• Set up and maintain jobs/tasks in ERP System, including revenue and cost budgets.
• Monitor job budgets regularly and audit job costs, reporting issues to the project team.
• Support project team in monthly revenue and cost projections.
• Review and interface all change orders for accuracy before submission to the owner/subcontractor.
• Participate in jobsite meetings and track issues.
• Draft and review payment applications with PM.
• Daily/weekly review of labor hours ensuring correct coding and classification.
• Reconcile cost accounts and perform job cost adjustments when necessary to correctly reflect accurate costs of the project.

Project Compliance & Administration

• Prepare owner lien waivers as needed.
• Approve subcontract lien waivers and follow up with subcontractors for timely payment application submissions.
• Approval of subcontractor payment applications.
• Oversee project closeout process (final billing/cost reconciliations, waiver tracking, tax releases)
• Tracking of Builders Risk Insurance & Bonds for projects including close out
• Preparation of state sales tax forms for projects

Experience/Training:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• 2+ years of experience in accounting for a commercial construction company.
• Experience with Trimble Viewpoint is a plus but not required.
• Experience working with State contracts is a plus but not required.
