Job summary

The University of Alabama is seeking a Programmer Analyst III to design, develop, support, and optimize moderate- to high-complexity software and integrations in a hybrid environment. You will work with Workday-related integrations, reports, and analytics across Finance, HR, and Payroll teams.

You will mentor others, lead small projects, and collaborate with campus partners to deliver scalable, reliable solutions while aligning with Workday best practices.

Pay Grade/Pay Range:Minimum: $68,500 - Midpoint: $89,100 (Salaried E11)

Job Summary: The Programmer Analyst III designs, develops, supports, and codes moderate- to high-complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the University under minimal supervision. This may include enterprise and highly critical applications. Develops processes and web applications. Creates workflows. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems. Works on a team and collaborates with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus. Supports their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.

Additional Department Summary: This position is a part of the Business Systems Administration team, which primarily supports and enhances business processes across Workday Financial Management, Supply Chain, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Payroll by developing, maintaining, and optimizing Workday integrations and/or reports and analytics. Works under general guidance to deliver high‑quality, scalable, and supportable integration solutions and/or reports aligned with Workday best practices. Participates in all phases of the integration lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, development, unit testing, end‑to‑end testing, deployment, and post‑production support. Reviews upcoming Workday releases to assess impacts on existing integrations and/or reports, calculated fields, dashboards, and data sources. Collaborates with functional teams, vendors, and technical personnel to troubleshoot Integrations issues or report discrepancies/errors, and performance issues across Workday tenants and external systems.

This team helps to support the following campus partners: Office of Finance and Human Resources. This position is expected to act as the primary liaison between integration or report developers, functional teams, and external partners. Additionally, serves as a mentor and technical leader within the EDAS team. Supports team members by sharing knowledge of integration tools or reports, development standards, and assisting with troubleshooting techniques. Leads small to moderately complex projects or report initiatives, including planning, task assignment, and coordination with cross‑functional teams.

The University of Alabama is embarking to transition its on‑premises finance and HCM ERP systems to a modern cloud platform. This position is time‑limited to the duration of the project due to additional department staffing needs while engaged in this project but could lead to regular employment at the University.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree and two (2) years of IT programming experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of IT programming experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming; OR High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming.

Skills and Knowledge:Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and work with customer groups and users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. The ability to manage work tasks using Atlassian JIRA tickets and follow through to completion. Have effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Troubleshooting skills to independently learn of, analyze, track, and resolve issues. The ability to implement departmental and critical third‑party applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation, to successfully install and take on support for an application. Strong attention to detail for support of applications involving financial transactions or critical application data.

Preferred Qualifications:Three years of experience in relevant IT fields, such as development and maintenance of software applications, relational database management systems, computer programming, web development or system administration. High level of experience supporting moderately complex systems and troubleshooting application issues. High level of experience with working with customers, gathering and analyzing requirements. Substantial level of programming knowledge and ability, with designing and building integrations. Considerable experience with Object-Oriented Data Model (OODM) and ability to analyze data structures and patterns in the data to gain insights.

High level of experience supporting or working with higher education and University of Alabama administrative applications and tools, such as native Workday Integration tools and/or native Workday reporting tools, Workday Prism Analytics, JIRA and Boomi. Base knowledge of managing Windows Server applications, including IIS management and configuration and a base knowledge of Linux commands. Knowledge of web development concepts, including experience with XML, JSON, Integrated Development Environment (IDE), web services, and web accessibility. Experience with other programming concepts and tools including restful APIs; shell, PowerShell, and Python scripting; Git versioning; managing flat file data feeds; and Power BI tools.
