Job summary

University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a Program Support Assistant for the FUTURE Program to provide support for students through campus-wide collaboration and assist the Program Coordinator with administrative tasks to foster positive outcomes for enrolled students.

The role involves coordinating with instructors to train on best practices for working with students with IDD, supporting peer mentors, and ensuring accommodations are utilized appropriately in collaboration with Student

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience: One year of experience working with students with special needs / disabilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of and the ability to work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Skills working with various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to be flexible in day-to-day activities and operations
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work in a team or group setting

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with staff and students to foster student success in the FUTURE Program
  • Coordinates with instructors to provide training for best practices with working with students with IDD
  • Coordinates training for peer mentors to facilitate student and mentor connections
  • Collaborates with Student Disability Services to ensure appropriate utilization of academic accommodations for students in the FUTURE Program
  • Collaborates with staff and student support personnel to ensure students in the FUTURE Program are engaged in campus life
  • Coordinates independent living supports for students in the FUTURE Program who live in residence halls
  • Coordinates support with Panhellenic representatives for students in the FUTURE Program who want to participate in Greek life
  • Helps students in the FUTURE Program register for courses
  • Supervises peer mentors who work with student in the FUTURE Program
  • Communicates regularly with students in the FUTURE Program to determine goals and progress
  • Assists students in the FUTURE Program in locating and traveling to locations throughout campus as needed
  • Assists students in the FUTURE Program with extracurricular activities as needed
  • Creates and publishes weekly peer mentor schedule
  • Maintains files and records related to community engagement of students in the FUTURE Program
  • Helps plan extracurricular activities for students in the FUTURE Program
  • Assists the Program Coordinator with various administrative tasks to include document creation, communication with faculty, staff, and parents, and scheduling of program activities

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of experience working with students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to develop individualized academic modification and modifications
