Job description

This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position.

This position will specifically support Community Programs’ youth programming, including College for Kids and College for Kids Jr. camps. Separate Program Support Assistants will be hired for the San Luis Obispo Campus and the North County Campus. Each assistant will help with the preparation and daily operation of these programs to create a safe, organized, and welcoming experience for youth participants and their families.

Responsibilities may include assisting with participant check-in and dismissal, responding to parent and guardian questions, preparing program materials and supplies, supporting classroom and camp activities, tracking attendance, helping with classroom and event setup, and providing general assistance to instructors and program sta. The position will also support participant recruitment and outreach eorts, including distributing promotional materials and stang informational tables at community and campus events. Each assistant will work closely with the Community Programs Coordinator to support smooth day-to-day operations and ensure youth programs remain engaging, inclusive, and student-centered.

Definition

The Program Support Assistant supports the daily operations, programs, and activities of assigned program(s). Under general supervision, this role supports events, outreach, and administrative tasks to help maintain organized operations and promote access to campus resources.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position provides flexible support for programs and operations across multiple functions and departments.

Essential Functions
  • Provide front-line support by welcoming and assisting students, staff, and visitors;
  • Serve as a liaison among faculty, student services, counselors, and administrators to connect students with appropriate support;
  • Support regular contact with students through in-person, virtual, and email communication, including follow-ups and referrals;
  • Help ensure programs and services are accessible, inclusive, and student-centered;
  • Provide general operational support to ensure smooth day-to-day activities;
  • Assist with tracking participation and compiling basic program data in relevant databases and spreadsheets;
  • Assist with the coordination and set-up of events, workshops, and program activities;
  • Support outreach by distributing materials and sharing program information;
  • Perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and document preparation;
  • Maintain organized program materials, supplies, and shared spaces;
  • Perform other related duties as required; and
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students.
