The Alliance for International Exchange (the Alliance) is an association that represents organizations and companies comprising the educational and cultural exchange community in the United States and serves as its only collective public policy voice. We engage in advocacy, provide member development opportunities, and build public awareness of the power of exchange.

Position Summary

The Alliance is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and self-starting candidate to fill the role of Program Assistant. The Program Assistant will work with and support a small, committed team of international exchange professionals. The position will work across all Alliance activity areas, providing administrative, communications, and programmatic support to ensure the smooth day‑to‑day operations and continued impact of the Alliance’s work. The role supports organizational operations, program coordination, communications, data tracking, and event logistics. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, a strong communicator and writer, a problem solver, and motivated to contribute to the field of international educational and cultural exchange programs.

Position Type

The Program Assistant position is a full‑time, exempt, one‑year contract position. Employment beyond this period may be considered based on organizational need, performance, and available funding. Candidates must be based in the Washington, D.C., metro area. The position is hybrid, with a mix of remote and in‑person work. Candidates must be able to easily and regularly commute to downtown Washington, D.C., both on a scheduled and ad hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and office support
  • Maintain databases
  • Assist with compliance processes
  • Monitor and respond to the general email inbox
  • Support weekly newsletter, email campaigns, and social media content
  • Write, edit, and format communications and organizational documents
  • Maintain and update website content
  • Manage and update member data
  • Monitor media coverage and track communications metrics
  • Create communications graphics and promotional materials
  • Support planning and execution of events, including the Annual Conference, Advocacy Day, and other programs
  • Manage event logistics
  • Assist with updating program materials and webpages
  • Support member engagement and communications
  • Conduct research and track policy and legislative developments
  • Maintain advocacy data and track campaign participation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience, including internships, volunteer work, or administrative support roles
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current employer sponsorship
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfort learning new systems and databases
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Preferred (but not required): Experience supporting events, programs, and/or social media and content creation; familiarity with CRM systems or data tracking tools; previous experience with international exchange program
Compensation & Benefits

The Program Assistant position is a full‑time, exempt, one‑year contract position with a salary of $55,000. Employment beyond this period may be considered based on organizational need, performance, and available funding.
