Job summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Program Supervisor to oversee the Virginia Pollution Abatement permit program in the Office of Land Application Programs. The role leads technical and regulatory work to issue individual permits for wastewater treatment and residuals, with a hybrid in-office and telework arrangement in Virginia.

Qualifications

Knowledge of personnel management, program planning and development.
Technical knowledge in environmental engineering/science or related fields.
Understanding of water laws/regulations (state/federal).
Ability to lead and develop others.
Strong communication with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Identify problems and set work tasks and schedules; allocate resources.
Provide regulatory guidance and training to staff.
Develop and implement guidance, procedures, and regulations; ensure customer service and compliance.
Ensure timely reporting on water program activities and manage projects/contracts.
Respond to technical/regulatory requests from the public, consultants, and stakeholders.
Evaluate programs for effectiveness and conformance to laws/regulations.
Provide technical leadership on duties such as wetlands, water quality, and pollution prevention.
Possibly use GIS/data management and technical writing as needed.
