Job summary

Feed My Starving Children in Aurora, IL seeks a Site Leadership Team member to supervise food packing shifts and coordinate facilities, repairs, and vendor services. You will support food safety, quality, and donor engagement while guiding volunteers through mission storytelling and prayers.

This role requires leadership experience, the ability to coach peers, and strong hospitality toward volunteers and supporters. A 40-hour week, varied shifts, and safety training are included.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Act as on-site contact for safety, quality, and emergencies in absence of management.
• Create welcoming volunteer experiences through public speaking and storytelling.
• Orchestrate packing sessions, direct volunteers, and manage palletized goods.
• Maintain a clean, food-safe facility, including cleaning and warehousing tasks.
• Uphold safety, food quality, and regulatory policies across the site.
• Serve as backup forklift driver when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Role:

Supervise and provide peer leadership during food packing shifts at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). Coordinate facility repairs, maintenance, vendor services, and building projects while supporting food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Deliver engaging volunteer experiences through hospitality, presentations, mission storytelling, donor engagement, and prayer. Uphold safety policies and procedures. Perform cleaning and warehousing tasks. Serve as the person in charge in the absence of management.

Pay, Schedule, & Benefits

• This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. Set starting rate is $22.10 per hour.
• Regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week, subject to site staffing needs. Schedule includes weekday, weeknight, and weekend hours. Occasional holiday availability required.

What You’ll Do:

• Supervise food packing operations during scheduled shifts. Delegate tasks and ensure that operations run according to FMSC policies and procedures from setup to cleanup.
• Model excellent work performance and encourage high performance from staff. Provide on the spot coaching to peers, recognizing successes and escalating issues as appropriate. This position does not have direct reports.
• Lead site-level facilities support (Generally 20-35% of the time)
  • Serve as the site point of contact for all facility related needs, coordinating with property management, vendors, the Site Manager, and Project Manager to ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Monitor and address facility maintenance needs, coordinate repairs and projects within scope and budget, maintain accurate records and payments, and communicate updates with internal departments as needed.
  • Partner with Program Supervisor – Safety and Compliance to maintain safety standards and support facility inspections, audits, and regulatory compliance.
• In the absence of management, serve as a on-site contact for food safety, quality assurance and occupational safety questions and emergencies. Complete PIC, CPR, and first aid training.
• Create a welcoming and impactful volunteer experience through public speaking and one‑on‑one interactions. Share FMSC’s mission and food impact stories, encourage future involvement and donations, promote campaigns and MarketPlace™ items, and express appreciation for each volunteer’s contribution.
• Orchestrate packing sessions. Anticipate needs, think ahead, troubleshoot problems, and be flexible with the unpredictability of a volunteer workforce. Clean, track production, direct volunteers, palletize boxes, and move pallets using a pallet jack. Lead a Christian prayer over the packaged food and invite volunteers to join.
• Maintain a clean and food‑safe facility: do laundry and clean floors, dishes, and bathrooms several times per day.
• Uphold food safety, food quality, volunteer safety, and personnel safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance.
• Act as a backup forklift driver (training provided), if needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

• Commitment to support, promote, and authentically communicate FMSC’s Christian mission and goals.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Experience with facilities maintenance preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership experience is required. Able to coach and direct the work of others.
• Able to present to and engage with large groups of volunteers and supporters.
• Self‑starter able to independently make decisions, perform tasks, and solve problems in a timely manner.
• Thrives in a team setting. Able to pitch in, fill in gaps, remain flexible, ask for help, and share responsibilities.
• Able to exert yourself physically for a 4-8 hour shift. Able to walk and stand in intervals up to 4 hours. Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist, and use hand tools like utility knives.
• Enthusiastic, assertive, and confident when sharing information with groups and individuals.
• Focused on hospitality: recognize and meet volunteer needs. Can build rapport and maintain relationships.
• Respect and value FMSC’s volunteers and supporters, varying in beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities.
• Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).

• Member of the Site Leadership Team along with other Program Supervisors.
• Reports to the Site Manager.
