Job summary

Feed My Starving Children is seeking a part-time front-line volunteer engagement facilitator at our Libertyville site. You will guide packing sessions, greet volunteers, and maintain a welcoming, safe, and organized workspace to support mission-driven packaging operations.

In this role you will lead sessions, ensure safety and cleanliness, handle basic POS transactions, and collaborate with staff to coordinate shifts and special projects while embodying hospitality and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 1 year of work experience.
  • Able to lift 30-50 lbs and stand for 6-8 hours.
  • Willing to work as part of a team and instruct groups.
  • Must be 18 years or older and aligned with FMSC’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to greet volunteers and answer questions.
  • Orchestrate packing sessions and troubleshoot volunteer workflow.
  • Clean and set up supplies before and after sessions.
  • Monitor time, manage transitions, and track production.
  • Lead packing and cleanup instructions to large groups.
  • Operate cash register for retail and donations transactions.
  • Uphold food safety, safety policies, and cleanliness standards.

Job description

Your Role:

Facilitate safe, efficient, and mission-centered volunteer engagement at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) by guiding packing sessions, providing exceptional hospitality, and supporting site operations to ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming experience. Perform repetitive warehousing tasks. Assist with site initiatives and special projects.

Pay, Schedule, & Benefits:
  • This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The set starting pay is $17.45 per hour. This is not a seasonal position.
  • Regularly scheduled for part-time hours to include a combination of weekdays, weeknights, and Saturdays, subject to staffing needs. Occasional Sunday and holiday availability required. Must occasionally pick up sub shifts.
  • Monthly trainings and meetings are required.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide exceptional hospitality: warmly greet volunteers, answer questions, provide clear instructions, engage in friendly conversations, and express appreciation for their contribution to FMSC.
  • Orchestrate packing sessions. Anticipate needs, troubleshoot problems, and remain flexible with the unpredictability of a volunteer workforce.
  • Clean and set up supplies before and after each volunteer packing session.
  • Monitor the time, manage transitions, flex with changing production needs, and track production.
  • Provide packing and clean-up instructions to a large group of volunteers.
  • Lead a Christian prayer over packaged food and invite volunteers to join.
  • Conduct retail and donation transactions on a cash register.
  • Clean, label inventory, palletize boxes, and store pallets using a pallet jack.
  • Maintain a clean and food-safe facility, which includes doing laundry and cleaning floors, dishes, and bathrooms several times per day.
  • Uphold food safety, food quality, volunteer safety, and personnel safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance.
  • Assist with site initiatives and special projects. Ex: implementing safety processes, handling retail inventory, reorganizing materials, or training peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications:
  • Passionate about FMSC’s Christian mission and living it out in the workplace.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent and 1 year proven work experience.
  • Able to exert yourself physically for a 6-8 hour shift. Able to walk and stand in intervals up to 6 hours. Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist, and use hand tools like utility knives.
  • Thrives in a team setting. Able to pitch in, fill in gaps, remain flexible, ask for help, and share responsibilities.
  • Able to confidently instruct large groups.
  • Focused on hospitality: can build rapport and resolve volunteer concerns.
  • Able to identify and solve problems. Responsible and able to use good judgment and discretion.
  • Respect and value FMSC’s volunteers and supporters, varying in beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).
