Job summary

Feed My Starving Children in Coon Rapids, MN, seeks a full-time, non-exempt role to welcome volunteer groups, present the mission, guide packing sessions, and uphold safety and hospitality standards. You’ll work with a team and handle basic cash transactions while supporting site initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Able to lift 30–50 lbs repeatedly.

  • Exposure to soy allergen is tolerated.

Your Role:

Facilitate a welcoming and impactful experience for volunteer groups serving at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). Deliver polished presentations, guide packing sessions, and provide exceptional hospitality. Oversee safety and cleanliness. Perform repetitive warehousing tasks. Assist with site initiatives and special projects.

Pay, Schedule & Benefits
  • Wage is $17.45/hour. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. This is not a seasonal position.
  • Regularly scheduled for full-time hours to include a combination of weekdays, weeknights, and Saturdays, subject to staffing needs. Occasional Sunday and holiday availability required.
  • Monthly trainings and meetings are required.

What You'll Do:
  • Provide exceptional hospitality: warmly greet volunteers, answer questions, provide clear instructions, engage in friendly conversation, and express appreciation for their contribution to FMSC.
  • Deliver professional, engaging large-group presentations introducing volunteers to FMSC's mission, impact, and food production procedures. Master and deliver the core narrative in a polished, compelling way while inviting volunteers to provide financial support.
  • Orchestrate packing sessions. Anticipate needs, troubleshoot problems, and remain flexible with the unpredictability of a volunteer workforce.
  • Clean and set up supplies before and after each volunteer packing session.
  • Monitor the time, manage transitions, flex with changing production needs, and track production.
  • Lead a Christian prayer over packaged food and invite volunteers to join.
  • Conduct retail and donation transactions on a cash register.
  • Clean, label inventory, palletize boxes, and store pallets using a pallet jack.
  • Maintain a clean and food-safe facility: do laundry and clean floors, dishes, and bathrooms several times per day.
  • Uphold food safety, food quality, volunteer safety, and personnel safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance.
  • Assist with site initiatives and special projects. Ex: calling group leaders, implementing safety processes, handling retail inventory, reorganizing materials, or training peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications:
  • Passionate about FMSC's Christian mission and living it out in the workplace.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to exert yourself physically for a 6-8 hour shift. Able to walk and stand in intervals up to 6 hours. Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist, and use hand tools like utility knives.
  • Thrives in a team setting. Able to pitch in, fill in gaps, remain flexible, ask for help, and share responsibilities.
  • Enthusiastic public speaker. Able to confidently share information with large groups.
  • Focused on hospitality: can build rapport and resolve volunteer concerns.
  • Able to identify and solve problems. Responsible and able to use good judgment and discretion.
  • Respect and value FMSC's volunteers and supporters, varying in beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).
