Job summary

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education – Northern Academy seeks a capable manager to drive day-to-day and long-range delivery of child welfare training across 28 counties. The role oversees scheduling, logistics, contracts, and performance against deliverables while maintaining outstanding customer service and strong stakeholder relationships.

You will lead project management systems, develop training plans, supervise staff, and coordinate with funders, instructors and county partners.

Qualifications

Job description

Under direction of the Continuing Educator, act autonomously in the day-to-day and long-range implementation of UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education - Human Services, Northern Academy programs and contracts. Oversee provision of professional child welfare training and related workforce development and organizational development services for 28 California counties, including social worker training, child welfare leadership training, coaching, consultation, technical assistance, conferences and special events. Supervise staff charged with scheduling all training and program logistics; manage Academy processes and technical systems related to deliverables; and ensure deliverables are met per contract requirements with outstanding customer service. Cultivate relationships with staff, funding agency representatives, county contacts, instructors and advisory committee members to ensure successful continuing training opportunities. Oversee development and maintenance of project management systems; manage training delivery and scheduling plans; and ensure all contract deliverables are met. This position is in the Northern Academy unit and has primary responsibility for the training delivery of this visible and vital program, which is part of California’s Regional Training Academy system for child welfare services. The Northern Academy is primarily funded by the California Department of Social Services and delivers more than 600 training days per year to child welfare staff throughout the region.

Qualifications

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience managing large projects of high complexity, including strategic planning input, outreach, development of client and partner relationships, budgeting, quality control, and training. Ability to assist in the identification, development, and delivery of new project opportunities.
  • Supervisory experience to recruit, mentor, train and coach staff to create a positive and productive work environment.
  • Experience organizing and implementing in-person and virtual workshops, meetings and conferences.
  • Experience with project management systems. Technical skills to oversee development and maintenance of project management applications (such as Airtable) and learning management systems.
  • Experience working effectively with clients to meet project goals/objectives and experience or skill to conduct needs assessments to determine potential deliverable offerings that meet with client needs. Oral, written and interpersonal skills to facilitate meetings, and develop and maintain relationships with funders and clients, including public relations skills to maintain the highest level of customer service and communicate professionally, verbally, in writing and before groups.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to identify issues, compare data and develop goals or plans for resolution and implementation.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply Federal/State/University rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing business and accounting activities. Knowledge of general accounting principles to develop course and program budgets, monitor course costs and analyze financial reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing and monitoring project deliverables, budgets and contract expenditures.
  • Experience managing marketing and outreach projects, including the development of marketing and client communication materials.
  • Experience using Zoom for virtual meetings and training delivery.
  • Knowledge of automated financial systems and business process systems, including Destiny One, Aggie Enterprise, and Airtable.
  • Ability to make public presentations that represent the department in a professional manner.

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the continuing and professional education division of UC Davis. In this capacity, UC Davis CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis. UC Davis CPE instructors include outstanding faculty from every school and college as well as distinctive working professionals in a wide variety of disciplines. Last year, UC Davis CPE recorded more than 62,000 enrollments in 1,400 unique classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master’s degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. UC Davis CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. Each year UC Davis CPE contributes nearly $10 million to UC Davis in the form of revenue shared with partner schools and colleges, fees and assessments, and course discounts extended to staff and faculty. As an academic unit of the University, CPE employs over 200 career employees (PSS, MSP, CX, TX, SX, Academics); utilizes limited, contract and student employees during peak periods; and draws on the expertise of over 400 instructors.
