Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso seeks a Robotic Surgery Program Manager to lead strategic and operational growth of robotic surgery services across surgical specialties. You will collaborate with surgeons, OR leadership, perioperative services, and administration to optimize system utilization and workflows.

The role requires 3+ years in clinical direct care and in program coordination or operational leadership, with RN licensure in Texas and advanced certifications preferred.

Qualifications

  • Three years of clinical direct patient experience.
  • Three years of experience in program coordination, service line management, or operational leadership within a hospital or surgical environment.
  • Experience in perioperative or surgical services, including direct involvement with robotic surgery. (DaVinci preferred).
  • Experience providing staff education, onboarding, or competency validation in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, and performance monitoring related to surgical operations.
  • Current and unrestricted RN license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current BLS, PALS, ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the robotic surgery program.
  • Partner with surgeons, OR leadership, perioperative services, hospital administration, supply chain, vendors, and frontline staff to optimize utilization.
  • Develop workflows, improve efficiency, or manage clinical operations.

The Robotic Surgery Program Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the robotic surgery program. This role is responsible for supporting safe, efficient, high-quality, and financially responsible growth of robotic surgery services across applicable surgical specialties. Partners with surgeons, operating room leadership, perioperative services, hospital administration, supply chain, vendors, and frontline staff to optimize robotic system utilization, improve workflows, support staff competency, and expand access to advanced surgical care. Serves as a key resource for robotic surgery operations, education, quality improvement, and program development while promoting collaboration, patient safety, staff engagement, and excellent clinical outcomes.

Work Experience:

Three years of clinical direct patient experience required.

Three years of experience in program coordination, service line management, or operational leadership within a hospital or surgical environment required. Experience developing workflows, improving efficiency, or managing clinical operations.

Experience in perioperative or surgical services, including direct involvement with robotic surgery. (DaVinci preferred).

Experience providing staff education, onboarding, or competency validation in a clinical setting.

Experience with data tracking, reporting, and performance monitoring related to surgical operations.

License/Registration/Certification:

Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing required.

Current BLS certification required.

Current PALS certification required.

Current ACLS certification required.

Additional specialty certifications (e.g., CNOR, RNFA, Robotic Surgery Certification through Intuitive Surgical) preferred.

Education and Training:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in a related field preferred .

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of robotic surgery operations, workflows, equipment, and best practices to lead program development and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of operating room processes, surgical service lines, case scheduling, turnover, and perioperative standards across all patient populations.
  • Ability to coordinate onboarding, deliver education, and validate competencies for RNs, surgical technologists, and OR support staff involved in robotic procedures.
  • Skill in monitoring efficiency metrics (block utilization, turnover times, room readiness) and identifying opportunities to improve access, coordination, and performance.
  • in maintaining dashboards, analyzing utilization and outcomes, tracking surgeon volumes, and presenting operational insights to leadership.
  • Understanding of instrument usage, disposable spend, inventory needs, and cost‑saving strategies to support financial sustainability of the robotic program.
  • Ability to serve as the primary liaison with Intuitive Surgical and other vendors, evaluate new technologies, and support their integration into clinical practice.
  • Capacity to identify opportunities for service expansion, support adoption in new specialties, and collaborate with providers to grow robotic surgery capabilities.
  • Understanding of growth and development needs for neonates through geriatric patients, ensuring equitable and appropriate care in alignment with departmental policies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to promote CARES values, work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and maintain a customer‑service‑oriented approach with staff, patients, and visitors.
