Location: Hybrid remote, must live in Kentucky by time of hire

ABOUT US

Generation Citizen offers tools for the rising generation to build civic skills and make America the inclusive, multi-racial democracy that we need. We are transforming how civics is taught by providing equity-rooted, real-world civic education that helps students understand how governments function and how they can make a difference in the system. Through hands‑on civic education, legislative advocacy, coalition‑building, and youth leadership development, we teach young people to have a voice and become active citizens in their communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Program Manager, South region to join our diverse and inclusive team. As an equal opportunity employer, we are dedicated to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be themselves at work. For this position, you will support Generation Citizen’s core programmatic work across key states such as Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Texas. This includes managing relationships with educators and district leaders, providing instructional coaching, supporting professional development, and ensuring high‑quality delivery of GC’s community‑based civics curriculum.

Additionally, this role plays a critical part in the South Region’s Civic Voice & Policy efforts, including youth‑led campaigns, legislative engagement, and coalition participation. The Program Manager will work closely with the South Program Director and collaborate regularly with other regional and national colleagues on strategic initiatives and shared learning.

This is an ideal role for someone passionate about civic education, educator development, and equity‑centered systems change.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Delivery (75%)
  • Manage a caseload of teacher, school, and district relationships in diverse communities, within the framework of GC’s national strategic plan and local strategic priorities.
  • Serve as an instructional coach for a set of GC South Region teachers and, as needed, remote national teachers to support them in successfully implementing GC’s curriculum, pedagogy, and equitable civic learning practices.
  • Lead pedagogical professional development workshops in collaboration with Local and National staff.
  • Create and manage regular teacher communication and coaching plans in collaboration with the South Region program team.
  • Steward and build strong relationships with district partners, with an eye towards progressing multi‑year partnerships towards goals and institutionalizing community‑based civics within schools and the broader community.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Evaluation & Learning, to use UpMetrics to track, analyze, and report on programmatic data.
  • Contribute to overall site program and quality goals.
  • Coordinate and lead external presentations, workshops, and school‑based and citywide end‑of‑semester Civics Day events in partnership with the Program Director.
  • Partner with the Communications team to develop external branding and marketing materials.
Civic Voice & Policy (20%)
  • Support teachers in elevating youth leadership through student‑led policy and advocacy efforts, such as legislative testimonies, campaign work, and leadership training.
  • Support the regional team in the facilitation of regional civic learning coalitions; build relationships with key policy stakeholders and local influencers.
  • Partner with GC’s National Civic Voice & Policy Team to implement regional advocacy campaigns aligned with organizational goals.
  • Elevate student and classroom stories to influence public discourse and legislative efforts focused on equitable civic education.
  • Represent GC in community‑based civic initiatives and cross‑sector events relevant to state and local advocacy priorities.
Development (5%)
  • Support executing the region’s fundraising strategy in partnership with the Executive Director and the Program Director.
  • Support and steward a culture of philanthropy in producing media publications and civics research studies, highlighting youth leaders as critical actors and establishing civic education reform as a lever for addressing racial inequality.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • 2+ years of classroom teaching experience at the middle or high school level. These years of experience must be in the humanities. Within the humanities, experience in civics, US history, or social studies is ideal but not required.
  • Experience in education policy is strongly preferred, but not a requirement. This role will work about 20% in policy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation skills, capable of effectively communicating complex data and strategies to diverse audiences.
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to stay organized and give attention to details while managing diverse tasks, activities, and projects.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets), familiarity with Google Suite applications, and experience with design tools like Canva.
  • Strong working knowledge of the South region’s education and policy landscape demonstrated through civic or policy engagement.
  • This person should be based in Kentucky, able to commute to districts throughout, and have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to adhere to local COVID-19 policies at various sites.
