Job summary

Artheon in Albany, NY is seeking a Program Manager, Planning to lead the Planning division and oversee multiple public and private sector projects. You will supervise staff, engage with clients, and guide the development of land use plans, zoning, and community development initiatives.

The role requires a strong background in land use planning, public engagement, and effective communication with senior staff and communities across New York State.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field required; Master’s degree and AICP certification preferred.
• Approximately 10 years of professional planning experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing staff or teams.
• Strong knowledge of land use planning, zoning regulations, and land use codes; form-based code experience preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent technical writing, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Must be a skilled public presenter with the ability to represent the firm in public settings.
• Strong computer skills with Word and Excel; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
• Willingness to travel throughout New York State.

Responsibilities

• Review the work of staff to ensure adherence to professional standards.
• Collaborate with Director of Planning on projects and initiatives.
• Supervise staff, determine workloads, and monitor schedules.
• Manage a variety of planning projects including Comprehensive and Master Plans, zoning, open space, environmental assessments, and economic development plans.
• Represent Artheon at public and community meetings and marketing events.
• Assist with marketing documents, proposals, work plans, budgets, and contracts.
• Assist with hiring, staff development, and performance reviews.
• Monitor project profitability for Planning.
