Job summary

General Atomics is seeking a Program Manager for a major nuclear systems program within GA-EMS. You will oversee execution, budgets, and coordination with internal teams and the customer to drive program success for national security and commercial applications.

You will represent GA-EMS to the customer, shape program scope, manage staffing and procurement, and ensure safety and compliance across departments.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in engineering, science or related field with 11+ years of leadership experience.
  • At least 4 years of project engineering/management experience taking projects from R&D to hardware delivery.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor principles and processes.
  • Strong communication, documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet and space systems and satellites, missile defense, and nuclear energy for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
The Nuclear Technologies and Materials (NTM) Division is seeking a driven and experienced individual to serve as Program Manager for a major nuclear systems program. Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, the selected candidate will act as a key leader in overseeing and executing major elements of the program, including coordination with internal organizations, staffing, equipment and facility acquisition, work planning, budget management, and monitoring technical, financial, and schedule performance. This individual will represent GA-EMS to the customer alongside senior program leadership, contribute significantly to the development and refinement of program scope, and take a leading role in addressing program and contract-related issues as they arise. The Deputy Program Manager will play a critical role in ensuring commitments are met and in driving successful program outcomes for national security and commercial applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take a lead role, in partnership with the Portfolio Manager and program leadership, in overseeing program execution, including monitoring technical progress, schedule adherence, and financial performance.
  • Lead tracking and analysis of program financials to promote effective cost control and budget compliance.
  • Interface directly with customers, in coordination with the Portfolio Manager and program leadership, to help meet program milestones and objectives and to communicate status, risks, and issues.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive the development of program scope of work, schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with resource managers and HR to staff programs with the appropriate technical and support personnel, including identifying and securing key talent.
  • Oversee preparation of procurement documentation and collaborate with the Procurement team to ensure timely placement of subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Liaise with Security and Quality Assurance teams to ensure compliance with program and customer requirements and to proactively address risks.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including Manufacturing, Testing, Nuclear Materials, and Fuels to align internal resources with program needs and priorities.
  • Organize and participate in regular program reviews and status meetings with internal teams, customers, and subcontractors, ensuring clear action items and follow-through.
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation and timely submission of contract deliverables.
  • Support resolution of escalated program issues and help develop and implement effective mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for new and follow-on program opportunities, including strategy, scope definition, and resource planning.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering, science, or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex program management and leadership experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • At least four years of experience in project engineering and/or management, including taking projects from R&D to design to hardware delivery.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor principles and processes.
  • Effective communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to lead and direct a project team.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE or DoD Security Clearance is required.
  • Desired Qualifications:
    • Certified Project Management Professional.
    • Knowledge of DOE and NRC regulations and project approval processes.
    • Knowledge of nuclear design, reactor physics, reactor operation, and/or reactor construction.
    • Familiarity with test and research reactor design, development, and/or operations.
    • Familiarity/working relationships with national laboratories (especially Sandia National Laboratories, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Idaho National Laboratory).
    • Familiarity with earned value principles.

Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 112,320 - 205,058
